what's important in a job, money or quality of life?

One of the big differences I've noticed between Americans on the one hand, and British and to some extent Canadians on the other, is attitude toward making money.

It often seems that if you claim to be after money in UK or Canada, people regard you almost as if you're a little bit unclean. In the US, there's no stigma attached with wanting to be rich.

I recall a dinner party a few years ago in the US, before I had a steady job. We were talking about ambition etc, and I think I said stuff about fulfilment, happiness, but also about wanting to be comfortable, money-wise. I was sort of apologetic about the last part, and the americans just laughed at that. It made me realize that our attitude to success was different.

Quality of life.

Tried the pursue of money and high pressure job and it just about killed me and destroyed the family.

Having the extra money was nice, but then our living expenses went up as well. I loved my job, it was what I was born to do, but now I realize why there are so few females in it.

Now I will stay home and look after my family.

I've never earned good money, but I've done lovely low paid jobs and shit low paid jobs. Job satisfaction every time. Having nice people to work for goes a long way too.

People are lucky that they have a choice.............

being on my own, paying bills and keeping a roof over my family's head means that money is really the most important......

I had to take a pretty shit job because i couldn't survive on JSA and my choices were getting smaller.....

Now i'm stuck in it till something else comes along. someone said they couldn't go down to £12,000...............that would be a considerable pay increase for me !

do you like to earn loads of money, or are you happier earning little but having reasonable hours, and working for a good cause?

money's obviously important cos we can't survive without it, but if you have to work stupid hours and act like your job is the most important thing in your life, is it worth it?
Job satisfaction, quality of the job, money and quality of life.
