What would you do if you were made redundant?

Panic, because I'd be on the job market, with a small baby in an economic downturn/recession.

Well, I'd applying for publishing jobs and hope to God someone would take me on part time for a salary that makes it worth me actually going to work. And apply for every benefit I can get in the meantime, which would probably not be all that much.

Oddly my Director has just 'disappeared' after some closed door meetings and we have not been told anything.....

I might try and get myself made redundant, what kind of payout would I be looking at for being with the company 3 years?

Not much is it..... :(

It can range from 1 week to 1 month for every year - or more even. And it's tax free.

I was made redundant and I was gonna be the housekeeping and gardening queen for a few months...but I got another job b4 my notice was up  phweee really cos I am not a natural house maker :D

Move back to Birmingham, take all of my cash out of the bank and walk the earth like Cain in Kung Fu...

Eeek! I've just been made redundant

I'm 'invited' to a meeting with HR on Thursday to discuss if there's a role within the company that I can move to OR to discuss redundancy. I can take a Trade Union representative, or a colleague from the company, should I want to.

It wasn't the best case scenario which would have meant me being with the company til end of year. Likelyhood is I'll be gone by month end :(

Still..what can I do? I'm amazed I've been here 4 years to be honest what with the terminal decline of the record industry. I'm just hoping I'll get a half decent package to leave with. I've been here 4 years but one of those was temping so technically 3 years. I hope I get at least 2 weeks for each of those years plus my notice.

Any advice on what I should do/say at my redundancy meeting urbanites??

how about:

'My job consists of basically masking my contempt for the assholes in charge, and, at least once a day, retiring to the men's room so I can jerk off while I fantasize about a life that doesn't so closely resemble Hell'

Good one. Might scupper my chances of a semi decent payoff. But there's an element of truth in that! :D

Sorry to hear this...it depends on your contract what you get but i reckon the minimum is you gotta be there 2 years...you get one week for every year...but depends on your contract cos I got one month for every year

Good luck!

Hard to say without knowing if there is another role, how interesting would be and what the salary is for it.

Also depends on the settlement offered to you if you leave? If you are not liking the place and you get a good settlement it might give you a paid holiday and time to find a new job?
