As for Preston - it looks like 'The Left Party - Respect'. This way, we keep our little star thing. Plus, in my opinion it's a far superior title in any case.

Don't count on it. Party descriptions have got to be registered yet, and the Nominations Officer for Respect - The Unity Coalition may well have a view that it is misleading.

Remember: The Socialist Party (England and Wales) have to use "Socialist Alternative" in elections because there is already a Socialist Party (GB) name registered.

If you are taking advice from John Rees I wouldn't count on it - he does not have a very good track record: he told you he could remove Linda Smith - he cannot; he told you could use the Respect name on the ballot paper - you cannot; he told you the £5,000 cheque from Dubai was okay - it was not and he's about to get a nasty outcome from the Electoral Commission.

Of course given that you think it's a jolly jape to stand an SWP member against the already selected Respect candidate in City and East London GLA constituency, wouldn't it be fun if someone were to stand as "Respect (George Galloway)" in Preston against "The Left List"? I wonder who would get more votes?
