What were the best PC games pre-1995?

Doom was cool and then people realised what could be done when ID created Duke Nukem 3D with mirrors, hookers, classic one liners, huge ridiculously over powered enemies and the very very cool shrink ray, where you could shrink your enemy so they were really tiny and then stomp on them.

12 Years later we're still waiting for a sequel. No holding your breath on that, people are long dead trying that trick.

Duke 3d was possibly the greatest game ever made! And if my memory serves right it came out in January 96 (a few days after my birthday!)

And as for that sequel, well I'll believe it when I see it!

Why is the quality of games generally not as good nowadays?!? nothing has even come close to Duke Nukem 3D in terms of playability! I have a strong feeling that if the sequel makes it off the vaporware list it still wont be as good as the orginal......

Then there was the original SimCity, with the cool expansion that let you build futuristic cities, wild west cities, lunar cities etc.

And Lemmings of course.

proper old school ascii adventure game: Rogue:cool: I was the tits on that.

There was a 3 colour version on the spectrum but it wasn't as good

Dungeon Master - you know it.

I seem to remember having to learn things like "back back right back left back back right right back left" to run away from stuff!

Oh my god...i remember spending hours creating maps on squared paper for that game!

Bluey - have you played the Lucasarts adventure games?

On PC, you HAVE to play

Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3 (not the later ones)
Day of the Tentacle
Sam and Max hit the road
Full Throttle
Indiana Jones - Fate of Atlantis
Grim Fandango

All but GF and MI3 (which run in windows) are playable in SCUMMVM, which is an emulator for the games language they were made in. I can sort you out with this. Some of the puzzles are stupid/hard, but they're all worth playing with a walkthrough, just for the story.

Point and click adventures FTW! I tried to get SCUMM working on my PC a while back but had no joy, think I got one of the monkey island games working but it was running at a ridiculous speed. Does it work on OSX?

Also, Syndicate was awesome, as was Zool for platforming goodness.

I heard a rumour that speedball was getting a remake? Anyone know anything about this?
