What was your very first computer?

commodore 16

Actually I forgot I had one of these!!

Spectrum 48k, then Spectrum +2, then Atari STE, then 286 12Mhz.

Had access to various BBC/Acorn machines at the time too, funny to think that of all the early kit the main legacy to survive is the Acorn stuff via ARM chips in modern mobile devices.

Still chortle to myself in a geeky way that I had a mouse, 3.5" disk drive and video digitiser for the Spectrum

First computer to be owned by the Mogden clan as a whole was an Amstrad CPC6128 green screen. Used relentlessly by us kids and Pa Mogden. Dizzy was a favourite as was Colony. I used to type up games from the Amstrad User mag only to get errors in gosub routines

First computer owned by moi is a Commodore Pet I think. Didn't get very far with it cos it was lacking hardware and software but they were going cheap.

Commodore C16, Spectrum 128, Amiga 500 then on to PC's. Amiga is in the loft with 2 boxes of games (just needs a mouse).

Had an Amiga CD32 which ended up being used as a cd player :(

Acorn Electron

My dad came home with an Acorn Electron in the 80s, it was the first time I'd heard the phrase "fallen off the back of a lorry"

We got a bbc when I was about 7, I subsequently learnt most of my swear words from my dad as he played various games :D

I never played any games on my BBC B. Well I did once play Bat and Ball but you had to write it for yourself in BBC Basic following instructions.

Mostly I did word processing using WordWise Plus which was a programmable word processor. It was good. I even had a ROM based spellchecker that checked as you wrote. This was even before Microsoft Word had a built in spellchecker. Printing out text on a daisywheel printer was very noisy, rather like a machine gun going off.

1982: spectrum 16k, swiftly upgraded to a 48k, then another one was bought so me and my brother wouldn't kill each other fighting over it...

fast forward through various video game consoles (which are not really 'computers') to about 1991(?)... to a second hand Compaq 386 with 4mb of memory and a hard disk not much bigger than that. we had to use a boot disk to get Doom shareware to run on it. good times.

Console-wise, I had a Vectrex and a Coleco Vision previously. First computer was a C=64.

My dad borrowed a Commodore Pet one school holiday - I guess in about 1981 or 82. It had a game called 'Nightmare park' which was great. The first computer that belonged to us was a 48k ZX Spectrum

Good thread for aging people! My first was the ZX81, then spectrum 48, spectrum 128 and that was it till the PC era.

First computer used was some (IIRC) Univac monstrosity at school. Punch-card hell.

First computer owned, a ZX Spectrum 48K that I had to eventually re-case into a more standard keyboard, as some of the keys were getting finicky about working.
First PC was an HP with a 1g hd and a 233mmx processor, running Windows 95, although I'd used plenty of earlier PCs running MS DOS and W3.1.
