I remember very little about the music except Edgar Broughton doing
'Out Demons Out' at four in the morning and T.Rex (uncredited above)
turning around the haters to do a blinding rock n roll set.
I remember the Angels being routed, and I got a shag. (which was nice)
cars and tents mixed together or recently harvested corn stubble, with fires of course I remember watching a fire spread across the stubble, reaching the cheap canvas tents which went up in seconds, and the attempts to get cars out of the way. Not nice.
Then leaving and ending up on the beach early in the morning watching expensively suited gents neatly fold their jacket, roll up their pinstripes, put a knotted hankie on the head and go for a paddle. So utterly surreal. I wonder if City gents in Clacton still have such exotic local customs.
My first festival was Reading I think, 1980-something early-ish, 82? 83? I wasn't driving yet anyway, it was definitely before M.O.R. 84 (had the most god-awful trouble getting home from that)
I didn't realise I'd seen Y&T, or Accept, or Motley Crue, for that matter. Maybe that was the one we went to and got in under the fence then, cos I definitely saw AC/DC.
ETA : checked the first one must have been Monsters of Rock 1981. I was..... 16.
