What was your first festival?

Reading Festival was my first when I was about 19/20. I don't remember much of it as I was a lightweight back in those days tehehe...

That day set me on a course of grunging which dominated much of my mid to late teens...

:D "Doctor, please help me - my hair's short and neat, and I don't own any flannel shirts!"

"Ah, I recommend a course of grunging..."

Editor: I can't believe my eyes, those photos are priceless.

British Bikers Bulldog Bash, not sure of the exact year, '91 or '92 I think. I worked it though for an agency, met some great chaps and the Hells Angels were great giving us free drugs and stuff. Can only remember one band that played as I was either working or hammered, Uriah Heep.

:) whilst in my mummys tummy, 31 years ago, she took herself(and me) to Glastonbury and then nearly every year til i was about 15, missed a few, then started going on my own,,,

I remember getting lost once, and was taken to the lost childrens compound which was in the Farmhouse, and had my name called over the main stage(when it was a catttle shed)

I had to check with a friend if I went to this a while back, what have I done to my head

It was only when he recounted a couple of stories that some vague memories returned :D

My first was Reading, 1987, but just for the first day. It was morphing from being a metal festival to a rock and indie one, and the first day was indie/goth day. I had fun - it's a good entry level festival.

I also saw an American punk band with a stupid German name that year too.
:p

First Glastonbury was 1992, just for one day. I got a phone call from a friend who was tour managing an artist playing there - "Do you fancy coming down and back on the bus with us, just for the day? If so, be outside the ICA in an hour..." My mind was blown, of course. Reading didn't seem quite the same after that...!

I have a soft spot for the Phoenix festival, just because it was so small and not that many people went. I even DJ-ed in one of the tents the first year, and because there was nothing else on, I ended up playing to a capacity crowd - probably a good couple of thousand...!!

:)

elephant fayre 1983, tbh i haven't been to that many festivals since, glastonbury 1986, and reading about 2000, and the odd day festival over the years...

The granddaddy of them all.......Woodstock, August 1969

My 15 seconds of fame was having Sly and the Family Stone sing happy birthday to me from the stage.....can't think of a better way to spend your 16th birthday!!

Monterey Jazz Festival is more my style these days!

Jealous just doesn't come anywhere near describing how I felt when I read that   :D

My first proper festival was Glastonbury 1984. I remember seeing Elvis Costello, The Waterboys and erm Joan Baez.

I can't remember the first one, but I went to loads of free festivals organised by the GLC (Younger readers note, not Goldie Lookin' Chain!), these were usually in Crystal Palace Park or Jubilee Gardens on the South Bank.

err one of those "rock aginst racism" ones, or whatever they where called, not the 1970's, 1990's after a anti-bnp march, lot of good bands...credit to the nation too I think.. I think that counts as a festival.. or maybe..hmm took a lot of acid in those days and all goes a bit hazy, something about a reggae festival too, that was good I think and crimianl justice act thing, or was that a riot  seemed fun at the time anyway :)

I went to a lot of steam rallies when I was a kids as well, they did have a beer tent and occasinaly music by men with beards and sandels :)

Reading Festival in about 1985. Iggy Pop was playing.

It was great. It was back in the days when everyone would get plastic bottles of cider, drink the cider, piss into the bottles and throw them about.

I dutifully drank the cider, did the honours etc, but when I threw it I was a bit pissed etc so wound up falling over. When I stood up, I got hit on the head by a bottle of piss coming the other way, and was knocked flat again.

It was ace. I slept in the car.
