what was the last punk rock classic you heard?

So What - Anti-Nowhere League on a mix tape (yup tape recorder, I need Sonatogen in order to pogo, though gobbing comes easier). :)

The Chili Peppers have a tune called Punk Rock Classic. Needless to say, it's a very poor effort.

Just before I spotted this thread I was singing 'Pretty Vacant'. Although I had earlier been singiing the Portuguese punk version of Route 66

Oddly enough I was singing that old classic* folk ballad, Pretty Vacant, myself this afternoon. Some while later I did the classic* 3 and a half minute punk version of American Pie.

* For certain values of "classic".

if it is a new cd, how can it be a classic?

^ pos future classic? - in Trev's house (or on his sales list) anyway

Heard some good tracks on last weeks Radio 1/Mike Davies - Punk Show last night but don't know which ones they were.
Looking at the tracklisting won't help as I was half a sleep while listening and don't remember the song order.

eta: right now I'm listening to the Stones song that inspired at least one punk star

If you can call This is England by the Clash a classic then it's that other wise it's Rockaway Beach by The Ramones ! Both on my MP3 player on the way home ( with Serge Gainsborough between them :D )

This Is England is not only NOT a classic it's outright bollocks delete it mate ;)

Serge on t'other hand was pretty punk rock.

For me - The Undertones first album
The Fall - Slates etc
and Damaged - Black Flag (some classic tunes not sure about the whole thing though) in fact I'm not even sure I think they're any good anymore

.....puts black flag on to see......

Not really classics, but last night the following 7"s went on:

Anti-Police - Demob

Pretty Paedophiles EP - Raped

:D

funnily enough, i was going through my stack of singles last night debating what i should bung on ebay. alas, i sold Demob yonks ago as that goes for a pretty penny now (mine had a massive big fold out sleeve) and I decided to keep the Raped 7" just for the title alone! :D

NB: in ref to some other nominations above, surely to be a 'classic' a song has to be of a certain 'vintage? certainly no later than 1980s era?

if it is a new cd, how can it be a classic?

just been listening to satans rats .. the 'what a bunch of rodents' collection

I got all the Overground stuff for £6 - £7 , he's put out a load of that era stuff as well as a load of old anarcho stuff with unreleased tracks like The Mob, Rubella Ballet etc

Currently have the CD player loaded with Veni Vidi Vicious by the Hives and Jennie Bomb by Sahara Hotnights. I love Swedish punk. It's so fucking polite. "Smash the system, if that's OK with everybody else".

The new Runnin' Riot album Boots and Ballads is a classic already, no need to wait years for somebody to say it is. It hasn't been off since i got it, the better half heard it once and wanted a copy. She hates 99% of punk by the way.

Give it a listen

I upset the singer of The Men They Couldn't Hang once, it wasn't my fault i didn't know who he was.

pray tell!

You is right about Runnin Riot, fantastic, and of course available from a certain poster on here for a mere six pounds sterling
