what was the first uk house tune that you remember?

Either MARRS or S'Express for me. Me and my mates thought it was all a bit silly when we saw these strangely-attired people driving around in cars listening to this weird music......

Little did we know that they had discovered the future of music, and it was pill-shaped!

Giles..

I can remember "Jack Your Body" by Steve Silk Hurley, which i think was the first House record to go go No 1 in the charts in either 1985 or 6? and "Love Can't Turn Around" with Darryl Pandy on vocals. "Yo Get Funky" and "Brutal Deluxe can't remember who did that calssic choons? Plus i can remember most of those tracks which pinkmonkey has just posted - i must be gettin on a bit! ;) :D

Anyone can remember a track called "Who's in The House?" a not too bad UK hip-house track which featured a rapper called MC Marvin (i think) who got permission from the jail where he was doing time, so that he could perform on To Of The Pops! Also "Rock Da House" featuring two female MC's called The Cookie Collective. Ah the memories of listening to House music and the odd bit of techno and acid house.....

It was too bloody lonag ago so I'm not sure... plus I was never quite sure who was UK and who was US. I think A guy called gerald "voodoo ray" was a n early UK effort, in which case it's probably him. Or maybe Mr Fingers, "can u feel it" he was a UK guy too I think.

surely that was acid, p'haps acid house. but are we talking house as in "house house...house nation" or what?

misread the thread quest to start with so apologies if came on strong in last two posts in this thread.

I've got a 7 inch house nation which I'm damn sure aint UK. But I also remember some of the noises like "I found lovin" and the "you what you what version." my first ventures into pubs, then got sidetracked by Springsteen and u2 for a while before finding the Mission and somehow coming back to stuff like the Woodentops, blame it on NME, I guess, or Sounds, or possibly even RM.

But it all went ka boom for me in terms of house round about 88, late really considering there had been a huge illegal rave on my doorstep, which I missed, on an Edgware farm. From then I didn't drop the baton until about 94.

Who really knows what the first UK house tune was, oh no I'm reading thread wrong again.

I don't know, I give up. I'm going to go with M/A/R/R/S Pump up the Volume followed by Sxpress,

When was Baby Ford's Children of the Revolution?

Just so there's no mistake about the houseability of this 4/4 kickdrumming house track...

In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove.
And from this groove came the groove of all grooves.
And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldy declared,

"Let there be house!" and house music was born.

I am, you see,
I am the creator, and this is my house!
And, in my house there is only house music. But, I am not so
selfish because once you enter my house it then becomes OUR house and
OUR house music!" And, you see, no one can own house because
house music is a universal language, spoken and understood by all.

You see, house is a feeling that no one can understand really unless
you're deep into the vibe of house. House is an uncontrollable
desire to jack your body. And, as I told you before, this is
our house and our house music. And in every house, you
understand, there is a keeper. And, in this house, the keeper
is Jack. Now some of you who might wonder.

Who is Jack, and what is it that Jack does?

Jack is the one who gives you the power to jack your body!
Jack is the one who gives you the power to do the snake.
Jack is the one who gives you the key to the wiggly worm.
Jack is the one who learns you how to walk your body.
Jack is the one that can bring nations and nations of all
Jackers together under one house.

That sounds a bit housey to me mate :p

(infact its sounds a bit too fucking housey)

I think I had Pump up the Jam on 7".

I was still at school in 1988 and at the time, being a comic geek, used to where a smiley face watchman badge. Used to get people coming up to me asking for e.
