First that was memorable to me was Lil Louis`s French Kiss , played it over and over which I think was around `87

Did we call it House in `87 , buggered if I can remember. ?
Yeah, twas always house - in fact IIRC it was the original term - before techno, or acid, or jack, or even dance.

Good call...from '82...that fucker gets everywhere! :D

But I guess it was more a direct copy of the prevalent US sound for comedy value than a 'serious addition to the house cannon'...and it would be another four years before anything else from the UK (I reckon) which speaks volumes. Oh, and he made it in the US with US producers IIRC...

d-mob : they call it aceeed, i think. beat dis is more hip-hop than house, anyway.

some of those coldcut tracks - doctorin' the house, people hold on - they were pretty early on?

Something like Broken Glass "Style Of The Street" or similar tracks produced by Greg Wilson in the early eighties (82-84), strictly it's electro-funk but a definite nascent house sound going on in some of them.

I still remember seeing the video for Jack Your Body on Top Of The Pops when I was about ten or eleven and being totally hooked.

Beat Dis/Pump Up the Volume/We Call it Acieeeed!/Acid Man (or summat similar...had the sample 'Stop that Infernal Racket, and I mean NOW!' at the end of it)

First 'house' tune I heard was, in common with many in the UK, Jack Your Body.

OOO...how about 'The Jack that House Built'? Wikkid tune that...

That was 'Acid Man' by Jolly Roger - brilliant tune. Ironically, I took that down to the October PRoD! :D

Didn't get played though...

:( ;)

It's coming back now...

'Acid maaaan, Acid maaaan, Acid maaaan'
Bleepppybleepy
''Acid maaaan, Acid maaaan, Acid maaaan'
Bleepppybleepy'
Acid maaaan, Acid maaaan, Acid maaaan'
Bleepppybleepy

Was playing a load of old acid/house/techno (early R&S like Ravesignal, Beltram and suchlike) to a mate who's in their early 20s and he was like 'This is fucking dull'

Youth of today etc

What the hell does he consider "not dull" then?

This is someone who thinks that Vol 1 of the Renaissance Mix Collection is 'just some House music'

He's been spoiled with too much overproduced modern tunage is all - doesn't get the sparse beats thing

I first became aware of "house" music when I went to a club in Bedford and they played something - don't know who/title but remember it just kinda repeated the words "House, house, house, house music" over and over again - and all the black guys were just jumpin up and down in the air, and the white guys were just standing around - ha! Those were the days.... :)

Sounds like Housemaster Boyz and The Rude Boy Of House - House Nation (Dance Mania) - a fine Chicago house track

It's coming on strong, it's coming on strong it's (dj long j-long)! Planet xtc.......
everything starts with an E! Eeezzzeee Posse I believe.

That sounds like the one! Must search through my vinyl and see what yr that was in :D

No idea, I'm sure I didn't like it though. I used to hate house music, it took an ecstacy fuelled move from heavy metal to drum n bass before I listened to any dance music at all.

I haven't bought anything else for years now though.

Had some house comp on vinyl. Had the smiley face on it. This must have been 1988. Had a song that went 'It's just the sun rising' on it.

What was that song that went 'House music all night long' (heh that narrows it down eh?)

Jungle Brothers- Girl I'll house you

Raze - Break 4 Love
First heard on a 'Deep Heat' mix album
Just got my first car and that tape rarely came out of the stereo

I got into house in 1986 - it was big in Yorkshire waaay before Acid house - we saw it as a more soulful black thing, back then.

I've still got the first two tapes a mate gave me in 1986 -at least it says 86 on the cases, I dunno if it really is from '86 or later, (been a long time ;) ). They are a mix of funk and house.

Tape One has

Still Smokin' - trouble funk
Back to the scene of the crime - Mr Freeze
Mr Big Stuff - Heavy D and the Boyz
Movement - The movement
On The House - Midnight Sunrise
Burnin' Up - Michael Jonsun
You Know How To Love Me - Phyliis Hyman
Joy and Pain - Maze
What You make Me Feel - Liz Torres Kenny Jammin Jason
House Nation - House Master Boyz

Tape Two is more housey

Mystery of Love - Fingers inc
Shadows of your love - JM Silk
Like This- Chip E Inc.
Music is the key - JM Silk
Move your body - Marshall Jefferson
Jack The House - Femme Fion
We're Rockin' Down the house - Adonis
IMNXTC - Deinse Motto
It's OK - The Force
Thank Ya - Sweet T
I'm House - The Elect
Let The Music Move You - Raze
Go See The Doctor - Kool Modee
Falling in Love - Sybil
Summertime, summertime - Nocera

I've about another half dozen tapes in the same vein

<gets all nostalgic>

There was a House Masters tour in 1987 around all the clubs up North, JM Silk and Farley Jack Master Funk and the House Master Boyz - does anyone remember this?
