I can't remember which came first but for me it was either 9/11 or the queen's mother's death , both happened when I was in primary school

Ahhhhh it's a fun idea for a thread though no?

Mine was mad cow disease. I remember the Tory that fed his daughter a beef burger and I remember being shouted at by parents for wanting a cheeseburger from the chippy as they did not realise cheese burgers contained beef burgers until after I had eaten it.

I can't remember which came first but for me it was either the sinking of the Titanic or the relief of Mafeking , both happened when I was in primary school.

Christ knows, we lived in the countryside and had no telly, plus I was a bit of a dreamy kid. First thing that sprang to mind was getting involved in the miner's strike support groups but I was a teen by then so can't be the first. Also weirdly recall my dad talking about the police murder of Blair Peach with someone, bet it was the unusual name stuck in my mind as certainly only years later I looked up what happened.

People are so young! Mine’s the Apollo 11 moon landing. How could it be anything else? It was huge.

But still Reecejackox you'd better say something else on this thread or I’ll... swear some more.

I remember the time there was that guy who started a whole stream of threads on Urban but didn't contribute anything beyond the first post.

I've forgotten his name now though, so he can't have been particularly interesting or memorable

I was at senior school for that and for the entire term beefburger were replaced on the lunch menu by turkey burgers. Dry fucking burgers.

Mine would be the James Bulger murder in '93. Child's Play 3 was banned iirc, possibly other films that I can't remember

for me it was the controversy - that seemed enever-ending - over the fate of AEthelwald. i don't remember the build up, but i just remember seeing Oswiu on the tv every night being asked again and again what had happened to the Deiran sub-king and nephew of Oswiu.

first time i'd paid attention really - i missed the big one with Oswald and Penda at Maeserfield, it probably dominated, but i was chewing sticklebricks or something...

I remember seeing the Challenger space shuttle being launched and exploding and the teacher putting the telly off. Except I'm remembering it in a different classroom and school from where I was in 1986. And it happened at 16.39 gmt so I probably wasn't in a classroom at all. Memories are funny fuckers.

I also remember that clearly. Being taken into the hall in infant school to watch it on one of those big tellies on wheels schools used to have, that never worked properly.
I can also remember the death of Brian Jones, believe it or not. Although I wasn't sure exactly who he was. We were on holiday in a caravan in Wales.
