What was the best Michael Jackson song?

i think kurt cobain was more of a real person. i could relate to him in a way

it's impossible to think what was going on in jacko's head

Yeah. Perhaps an inaccurate comparison. But there was a similarity in that I can't think of any two other people so fucked up by fame.

i dunno if madonna is as much of a one off as michael jackson

she did better songs, and lasted longer. but there are plenty of madonnas

alicia keys and jeniffer lopez are both much smarter and more talented than madonna for example

noone even competes with michael jackson, he's just michael jackson

You're probably right. Madonna is probably more comparable with a band like Blur - really good at latching onto the zeitgeist, but not so much of the intangible...

You think? You think Blur created the baggy zeitgeist with Leisure? OK they probably kickstarted britpop with Modern Life, Park Life and Great Escape, but with their Blur/Thirteen stuff, that was distinctly after-the-fact, being influenced by US lowfi...

Blur never latched onto a zeitgeist. If anything they made the zeitgeist that others followed. Same with Madonna.

blur and madonna are both very polished versions of things that have gone before them

not to say that they both aren't brilliant. but neither of them were pioneers

Leisure wasn't that baggy and actually was one of the few "baggy" albums that was any good. Blur and 13, for me, signified the moment of "post Britpop" when the better bands of the era, came out with very dark and different albums to take them to the next level and distance themselves from the very zeitgeist that they had created. See Pulp's "This Is Hardcore" to tie in with that theory too. Where bands like Oasis just peddled the same Britpoppy stuff.

MJ always took fucking years between albums, 5!!!! after Thriller, then 4 after Bad. A great artist in his prime would never be that slack.

And Albarn's body of work pisses on most artists ever. Most certainly in British terms, where I think he ranks as number one. I'm glad that the years of people deriding him as twat have subsided and he is now becoming more and more revered, with great justification.

That is bollocks. That same argument can be said of MJ. He was a polished version of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder etc. And what did MJ pioneer??? Don't say anything that relates to video or dancing either cos that's bollocks.

It seems that people have this mental block and think that MJ is year zero for everything. Wake up people.

honestly like, do you really think of blur in the same way that you do michael jackson?

this is a stupid discussion because if you can't see the difference then i'm not going to explain why i see them differently

Blur are much better than MJ, by far, without doubt. They wrote all their tunes, have a better and more consistant body of work, better videos, and so on. Much much better, I can't even think what goes on in your mind.

in your opinion blur are better

most of the world haven't heard of blur

that's the difference

Rock With You, Working Day & Night, Wanna Be Startin Something.

That's about it, and the concurrent J5 tune Can You Feel It pisses on all three of them.

sorry, but i feel like i've been banging my head against a wall trying to explain something obvious for about an hour

this used to be my favourite album for ages at one point during my teenage years.

I was playing some of his lesser played videos last night. They're all brilliant.

Blood On The Dance Floor
Scream
Leave Me Alone
Another Part Of Me (live)

Don't know if I could chose a favourite track. probably 'Off The Wall'. I like 'P.Y.T'. and 'Beat It' - there are so many good ones. Evidence seems to suggest that his songwritting had peaked ages ago though, with very little on offer from Invincible.

I've got a Megamix at home that's like 10 minutes long. Its aces. Its even got bit of tracks like 'Say Say Say from McCartney mixed into it. I'll dig it out later for DJing with.
