This morning it was my kitten, but usually it's the sun (east facing window) easing me into it, then my mobile alarm.

The cat, running up and down the duvet yowling. It's usually around 5am. Once I've reached the point when I think I may as well get up because I'll never go back to sleep, he retires to his basket.

A blackbird

it cheeps away frantically from about 6.30am, perched on a tree outside my window

It knows that I water the garden of the church opposite my bedroom first thing and when I do it goes hunting for worms

So basically I'm woken up by a bird demanding that I sort out its breakfast

:)

My two year old daughter acts as my alarm clock, and alas she has no snooze funciton.... you can rely on her to be up by six thirty at the latest. Her twin sister on the other hand will happily snooze on for a couple more hours.

In the first instance my bowels and bladder at 04.30.
I have now consumed an improbable amount of south American coffee and am ready to take on wild animals with my bare teeth.

For the past 4 weeks it's been the sound of pneumatic hammer drills about 20 ft away from my window. 8.30am start every morning. I usually just go back to sleep for another hour, or so.

Similar story here. The little bleeder now wakes me every hour or so through the night but once it's daylight then I can't get back to sleep

At weekends, it tends to be the cat - she knows that I *might* give her a treat, whereas in the week I don't usually bother, so she tends to leave me alone and I wake up naturally.

The cats are pretty good about not waking me up, but Radar has recently got into the habit of washing my face in the morning - I usually snooze through it unless he tries to lick my eyelids which is a) disgusting and b) painful.

The bloody sun streaming through our inadequate curtains grrrr....

Fine on weekdays - rubbish on weekends

You should get some thermal velour curtains or good lined ones. That tends to solve the sunlight getting in :D
If I have to get up for a reason the alarm wakes me, otherwise I wake up naturally at various times
I also find earplugs a useful thing to have(stops me getting woken up by the dawn chorus)

Usually it's the subconscious need for more coffee. If I don't get up right away and make some I usually have an unshiftable headbanger of a headache all day.

Usually my neighbour revving up his van. If not that then it's the neighbours dogs howling. Then in termtime my alarm goes off at 7.00.
