What university are you at?

I've already done Cardiff (French/Spanish/Italian 92-96) and Goldsmiths (PGCE MFL 2005-6) but in two weeks time I'm starting an MA in Japanese studies at SOAS - I'm SO excited. :)

St Martin's College Lancaster, soon to be the University of Cumbria.

Red Rose...Joinee? :D Danny Wallace is brilliant!

Sorry about that Red Rose
I am studying philosophy - just going into second year (I'm part-time)
I'm also just about to go into the second year of philosophy. I don't quite understand the difference between the part time and the full time course, do you study two modules a year instead of four?

Cerisa: are you a fellow joinee? :D

Red Rose

Yes, I only do two units a year - this year "knowledge and its limits" and "existentialism and phenomenology"

I'm starting an MA at SOAS at the same time - but I'm doing Chinese studies!

oooh.. how exciting - are you as excited as me?.. one of my courses crosses over into your masters I think... the cinema option!?!

I am at the Metropolitan University of Life, previously known as the Polytechnic of Life. Not as high falutin as the University of Life but more vocational. Never mind how many years.

Yeah, I remember it when it was just the School of Hard Knocks.

I think I am more excited than anyone else! I've bought a new bag and folders and pens and everything! And as the piece de resistance, a Chairman Mao pencil case!! Though obviously I will try and play it very cool when I actually turn up on the 1st day...

Yeah, the cinema option is on my course. I thought about doing it but instead I'm doing anthropology, politics and language. What about you?

Japanese Cinema Studies: An historical Overview 1896-1952
Syntactic Structure of Japanese (which I think I can do for one term only).. in which case I will probably do Modern Japanese Literature in term two... although everything looks so brilliant and I want to do it all, so I'm hoping I will be able to tweak things around a bit when I get there!

Do you not have to do 3 courses? Can you already speak Japanese? I've done 2 years of Chinese but I think I have forgotten most of it. Oh, and do you know when we can chose our courses or get our timetables? I wanna start NOW!!

I'm going to be well geeky and go to lectures that aren't my courses. Damnit, I'm paying my fees, I'm going to get the most out of it!

I think it's two majors and a minor. I'll definitely do language for the minor.

Yes I can speak Japanese - I lived there for 4 years.. but I've been back now 6 years so it's getting very rusty!

I had to say what courses I wanted to do when I applied and they sent me a letter saying that's what I'm doing!! But I'm assuming this can be changed as I have no idea of timetable or who is teaching the courses or anything like that! The timetable thing in particular is quite important to me as I need really to have enough time to do some work too!

Yeah, I need to work too, unless I fancy starving to death and living in a locker at the ULU pool... The provisional lecture timetable is on the internet, but not the classes, so it's not all that much help.

I only had to say what I wanted to do for my major (anthropology), and so I guess I can't change that one - not that I want to.

I'm sure your Japanese must still be pretty good if you were there for 4 years. I toyed with the idea of learning Japanese when I was about 16 but only got as far as konnichiwa, konban wa, and moshi moshi. That's it. Thankfully my Chinese is slightly better...

Are you going to go to the post grad talks and stuff?
