What type of tin/can opener have you got?

Yep, I've got one of them in that style as well - but green. Worked well, and now it's a heap of shite

I've had one duff one so far out of several. I probably only spent a couple of quid on it in the wrong sort of shop.

You have to feel sorry for people on slave wages in the Far East, manufacturing useless tools. You used to get sets of screwdrivers back in the 70s that failed with the first screw.

yeah, but it means people keep having to buy to replace them, although I'm sure they'd probably have more pride in their work knowing they were making quality gear rather than crap - and of course being paid a decent wage :(

Look at all those pricks

Tempted :o

Pip

Received them today. I just tried the Y-Peeler. It's very good, absolutely no stress on my wrists, although I did only do one spud

Thanks for the recommendation

I have poor grip strength and I can't open tins with a manual tin opener. I've got a one-touch one, battery operated. It eats up batteries though.

Geri

Can opener was a piece of piss, although the tin was a good one as opposed to dented.

Four twists of the handle and I'd opened it and without having to apply hardly any pressure.

Will update you when I try a bent can

Is there something wrong with your wrists Minnie, or are you just very, very weak?

Someone I used to live with was always moaning about LeCreuset pans, even the small saucepan was too much weight for her apparently. Pensioner strength levels before her time - fuck knows how she'd cope with a stockpot or catering sized pan.

Good grips stuff is generally well designed and robust. With the exception of the potato masher, which tend to break all too easily - I gacve up after the second and went to a non branded replacement.

I'm more whippet than Rhino from Gladiators and they're reasonably heavy at best fwiw.

I'm genuinely intrigued as to the disparities in wrist strength. I'm a lazy, skinnyish bloke who hasn't done much exercise for the best part of a decade, have broken one wrist, suffer tendonitis and they still seem reasonable to me. I'm sure that wanking technique can't be the only factor

Maybe ox is a bit unfair, but I'm definitely closer to ox than starling :hmm: I wouldn't describe my wrists as weak anyway, but Le Cruesets are too too much.

I find full le creusets heavy - we must just be weak wristed girlies...:(:D

Maybe strong wrists are part of the design feature in boys for reasons mentioned by Tarannau...

eta - ox is probably a good description for me - or at the moment "cow" ...

Full Le Creusets are heavy, but they're bearable imo

One of the sneering cliches made by older chefs to keep women out of commercial kitchens was that they couldn't be expected to handle stock pots or drain large pans. Which seems ridiculous when there are remarkable female mountaineers and athletes, but perhaps there is some truth in the wanking wrist theory for everyday folks.
:hmm: ;)

Forearms are fucked, have trouble with things that are heavy or applying pressure. Left wrist has been fucked for most of this year. Keeps locking. Not painful but incredibly uncomfortable sensation when it unlocks in a sort of scrunching way

THere's absolutely no way I could handle Le Creuset pans - they're totally heavy when they're empty never mind putting water in them

Blimey. That's a bit shite Minnie. You had any physio on them? - those handgrip trainers and some roll exercises can be pretty good in regaining strength ime.

No. I went to doctors about forearms/wrists about 25 years ago (I was doing a massive amount of typing then on an electronic typewriter). I was told I was suffering from hysteria. RSI hadn't been recognised then. :D

The left thumb and wrist thing is fairly recent. Am going to go to doc's soon to see what she says about it. Been too busy taking time off for b/f's hospital/doc's appointments to go to my own doc about my problems
