What to wear with a babydoll top if you're fat?

I was going to base the shrug on the top bit of the Tubey jumper from knitty. Otherwise, I think a wrap would look good if it wasn't going to be in the way.

Its a dress like Beryl Reid wears in "Entertaining Mr Sloane" I would definitely not be wearing one of those.

However the top in Madzone's pic is lovely - I would describe it as 'Empire line';)

(The style can make one look a wee bit pregnant, but I have bit of a belly so I look like that anyway :( . I'm hoping if I wear an empire line top that people will just think its the cut of the top that makes me look like I've got a pregnant belly - sort of double bluff:) )

stick this on you silly mare :)

This one's not too flarey under the boobs - someone has actually thought about the design it seems

You're not getting any pics of me :p
Ok, now I have had it explained to me and I can also see the item in question...I'm now having a problem understanding why you want to now cover it up. You say you're 'fat'...now, to me that's not an issue, cos it looks like the sort of garment you can actually cover up any extra girth with.

I'm not sure babydoll tops are flattering per se, tbh. I think they make you look pregnant!

(For the uninitiated, a baby doll top is cut so that it's fitted until just under the boobs, and then flares out in a floaty way.)

Yup, they can make you look a bit pregnant. I do think they can look very nice on curvy ladies though, as they tend to emphasis the boobular area whilst skimming the belly. Does depend a lot on the cut though - defo not one to buy without a trip to the changing rooms first.

A girl I work with was wearing a lovely empire line dress the other day and I had more than one person pulling me to the side asking whether she was pregnant. It did make her look about 5 months gone though. :(

this divide on shrug things is odd. I really like them - but they have to be big enough.

I like them because they emphasise that I do go in at the waist - or they don't get in the way of the empire line / babydoll shape of the top / frock, like a longer cardi would.

It's an issue of arm coverage.... ! :)

I have exactly the same problem.. I bought quite a nice short sleeved black cardy off E-bay to cover this problem... but it's still not quite right...

I hate showing my upper arms and am living in a lacey hooded cardie which is very cool and even:cool: and more net than material..look out in charity shops etc for light thin flowey cardies-i have several that even whilst really hot, i can barely feel, stops sunburn too:)

Ahh, ok, gotya. I think. Have to say though, I can't see owt wrong with showing arms off whatever their size, if you want to wear stringy tops.

Well no, neither do I.. unless they're my own arms that is... :(

Depends on the cut of the top to be honest. I tend to wear a cardigan that's over tops like that, something of a light knit or with sequins or stuff to make it a bit dressier.

I think you'll look lovely in it, madzone.:)

And, to be honest, that top doesn't look like you could make a tent out of it so I don't think you're fat :)

You obviously dont have bingo wings :D or stretch marks, or weird dry skin with red bobbly bits. My arms are horrid, I hate showing anything above the elbow.

Theres nothing wrong with it per se, its just that some people don't feel happy/comfortable showing their upper arms.
