What the heck is going on with star trek???

Look I know this is going to sound all wrong but both my brothers are gay and I am not in any way a gayist. I think you are being a bit over sensitve.

I think you are completely missing the point... Go and talk to your brothers about why "gayist" might sound degoratory. And then they might point out something about having to put up with degoratory comments.

Or you could appologise, learn, and move on.

They don't care in the slightest, and neither do any other 'homosexuals' that I know. Different people are obviously offended by different things. I actualy picked the word 'gayer' up from my little brother who refers to himself and 'special friends' as such.

So it would be ok to call Geordi a ni**er because I've got some "specially coloured friends" who call each other that.

Still waiting for that apology...

aparently it's they new in word for refering to homosexuals ....

this isn't the first time i have heared it i was at first somewhat raised eyebrows at the term but aparently it's the new vouge

you may have a long fight on your hands

Don't me and my "gayist" 'special friends' are used to this. Anyway, Mr Suplex didn't know who Geordi was. So I'm guessing he doesn't know much about Star Trek anyway...

No of course not, but thats becuase they don't find me saying 'gayer' offencive whereas the N word is offencive to many. OK so you obviously as an individulal have a problem with it, but i think you are being a bit of a knob.

Don't hold doors open for women, they might consider it sexest!

Mind you I do start crying and feel all hurty inside when they do the finger quotes and tell me I'm 'so hetro'.

hey i didn't say i liked it i just pointed out that he ain't the only one using it

he may be a tos fan ... i mean if he managed to remeber sulus full name thats an uncommen feat

I was simply pointing out that they had a correct multi cutural cast and an openly gay man to boot.
He wasn't openly gay til last month. There goes that theory :p

and on the "gayer" thing...
If it's not an accepted derogatory term (which I don't think it is) and isn't used with apparently derogatory intent (which I don't think it was) than I really don't see the problem :)

I love you.

But not in a gay way you understand.

Mind you I'm sure sulu came out 'in public' last year I'm sure, but didn't he say most of the cast and crew knew while he was filming 'the trek'.

Right... So we can only be offended by what everyone-else terms as offensive... Personally if offend someone then I say sorry and don't do it again...

Whatever.

Unsubscribes from thread & puts ATOMIC SUPLEX on ignore...

  1. I had no idea you'e gay.
It seemed to me you were offended on other people's behalf.
  2. In my opinion the only people to determine that "gayer" is offensive is the gay community.
  3. We've heard from the person using the term that he learnt it from gay men with whom he's friends and who are perfectly comfortable with it.
So are you taking offense because:
  • You know otherwise - it is offensive.
  • You haven't heard it before but you find it offensive.
  • It's OK for queens to say but not breeders.
  • Or...? Please enlighten us.
Which one of those makes an important difference.

i think was just a case of no one asked so he just didn't feel the need to bring it up

i think it only came up when he started working for some charity or summin

Not so sure either why jæd got quite so offended. So far the only person I ever heard use the term is my boyfriend.

I suppose anybody who uses slang used by or aimed at a minority they aren't part of is on dangerous ground. On the other hand within context it was clear to me that ATOMIC hadn't used it in a derogatory way. At worst it was a failed attempt at being hip.

Ha fucking ha.

It just ended with Hoshi saying her own name and she pronounced it 'sarto'

instead of sa-to. Doesn't she know how to say her own fucking name? That's what you get for casting an american born Korean as Japanese.

She doesn't even look Japanese, *the writers* 'they all look the same to me'

During the shooting of Voyager Garrett Wang once suggested that they introduce a Chinese character in the name of reconciliation (this was during the spy plane incident a few years back). The writers gave him a funny look and said that he was a Chinese character. This was news to Wang who'd been playing 'Harry Kim' as a Korean for several years now, quite understandably.

it's fucking merkins in space!

i think 90% of the startreck world lives in san fransisco

Although it was bombed to buggery by the Dominion in DS9, so maybe we'll see less of it in future series. ;)

What the fracK (is that a ST thing?) He was playing kim as Korean???? What made him think that he should play as a Korean? Was it that he just assumed as he was an oriental in star trek he should play someting different as is the tradition it seems?

I think he thought Kim= Korean. AFAIK it's not a Chinese name is it?

Ahhh I see. I'm not up on my Korean names as a friend of mine (who as taken an intrest in 'only' Korean ladies lately) has been pointing out.

This has I think been triggered by Grace Park.

Oh yeah - Kim Ki duk etc.

Oh I understand, believe me.

**wishes he'd recorded the Hoshi-in-a-negligee scenes from the last two episodes**
