What song would you want to be played and your funeral?

Shit.

That was what was wrong with the funeral I went to last week.

Hmm. We were going to go back and do something in the warm part of the year - now I know what...

(oh, and for me? *Bury me deep* by the Sisters of Mercy, please)

"Hurry up Harry" by Sham69 (don't care about any "Plastic punx" accusations, this is the theme tune to most of my life :p) and "So What" by Anti-Nowhere League.

A bit of pessimism and optimism all rolled into one funky funeral

Probably what we got married to -

Beatles - Here Comes The Sun
Leonard Cohen - Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye

And cheesy as it sounds, I'd like this poem:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight
.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.

I love that bit in bold.

Yes, that poem is good.

At the moment; Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper". Love the guitar break in that track.

Oooh, good choice *amends will*

Me too. And not before time, its been '1979' by the smashing pumpkins since I was about seventeen. A great song and all, but I'd only have it played for my own benefit, which is a rather silly way to think about one's own funeral

If it weren't for the 'you'll never walk alone' outro I might pick Pink Floyd's 'Fearless', if only so someone at the reception (reception? wake perhaps) can say 'that was pink floyd that song' and everyone else can go 'no it wasn't, and anyway he hated pink floyd' :)

*haven't read the thread disclaimer*

This one's probably been said already but for many years (and for a few reasons) it's been the Pixies' 'Monkey Gone To Heaven' for me

as before,

for the coffin going down - Eno 'Here Come The Warm Jets'

Thinkin Fellers Union - 'Noble Experiment'

very probably St. James' Infirmary

'I want a Jazz band on my hearse wagon, to raise hell as we go along'

Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey
Nobody Does it Better - Carly Simon
A View To A Kill - Duran Duran

I think you can see where I'm going with this.

My funeral is already planned and has been for the last ten years or so. I plan to have Faure's Requiem played in full while there is no eulogy other than those friends and family want to give. So there is a good chance that, apart from the music, there will total silence.

I'd like every song I've named on these 'Funeral Song' threads over the years put together and played as a medley on the accordion.

NIN- Heresy.

I'm going to have a churchy funeral just so I can blast out this sacrilicious ear-bleeder of a tune:cool:

'Come to daddy' by Aphex Twin and 'Back for good' by Take That, both playing at the same time in a disturbing mesh of overlaped madness, to be played in total darkness, with random stabs of strobe lighting revealing a giant picture of my face looming over the mourners.

The only Jungle song appropriate to funeral's IMO is:
Remarc - R.I.P.
Which i want played at mine.
Other in/appropriate jungle tunes:

6 million ways to die - DJ Hype
The Burial - Leviticus
Angel - Goldie
Mr Kirks Nightmare - 4 Hero

Lost count of how many times this thread has been done, but I said it before and i'll say it again.

Harry McClintock - Big Rock Candy Mountain

At one of my best friends funeral earlier this year his wife chose Snow Patrols Open Your Eyes. I still cannot hear that song without crying. Bit embarrassing really, was at football the other week & they played it at half time ended up having a snivel in the bogs..:(

Another Girl Another Planet; The Only Ones.

Preferebably with crushed coffin on rubbish barge sailing down the Thames from Northumberland Wharf solid waste transfer station, into the sunrise, with mates swalling tinnies of 'K' cider on the quayside.

Ahhh

My friend had that played at his funeral a couple of weeks ago.

Ligeti's Requim (from 2001)
Crumbs 'Black Angels', Departure.
Rukus (Remix) by Technical Itch...or some other fuck off techstep...

Goodbye cruel world form "The Wall"

Goodbye cruel world,
I'm leaving you today.
Goodbye,
Goodbye,
Goodbye.

Goodbye, all you people,
There's nothing you can say
To make me change my mind.
Goodbye.

;)

Uncles funeral I was at the other week had "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from Life of Brian on as everyone left the church.
