What song would you want to be played and your funeral?

crass_kitten

Smells of cigs and booze.
A bit morbid and this thread has probably been done a thousand times already but hey i'm a newbie so have forgiveness!
Recently attending a funeral it got me wondering, what song would I have played at my funeral?

So what song would you want to be played?

I think i'd want Led Zepplin - Stairway to heaven played at my funeral.
Then for the afterwards (when everybody gets pissed and talk about what a great girl I was ;) ) I'd want Pixies, Bowie and a select few other songs played at a volume i'd be proud of.

There's so much more that I wanted and
There's so much more that I needed and
Time keeps moving on and on and on
Soon we'll all be gone
Let's take some time to talk this over
You're out of line and rarely sober
We can't depend on new excuses
Cause in the end it's fucking useless
You can only lean on me for so long
Bring your ship about to watch a friend drown
Stood up on the ledge
Begged you to come down
You can only lean on me for so long
I remember shots, without a chaser
After my thoughts, now you're a stranger
Cover up the scars
Put on your game face
Left you in a bar
To try and save face
You can only lean on me for so long
Bring your ship about to watch a friend drown
Stood up on the ledge
Begged you come down
You can only lean on me for so long
So sorry it's over
So sorry it's over

:o

It has, but never mind.
I always go for Prince Buster's "Enjoy Yourself" followed by the theme to Grange Hill for when the coffin goes up in flames. :)

I just want some fuck off jungle mashup.

May get ninjaboy to DJ if the cnut out lives me.

What a fucking fantastic question.

My best friend died a few months ago, and I got this tattooed on my chest -

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

reversed so only I can read it in the mirror, I hope it has the desired affect.

Mine,

Oooh, toughy,
Probably somewhere between "too drunk to fuck" (DK's), and "Hero" (Mariah Carey).

Anything by William Shatner or Ivor Biggun.

I can see it now, the mourners huddled in the crematorium, all is quiet, the occasional sob breaking the silence, and then an entire funeral looking up and thinking:

"What the fuck is this?"

Fire-Crazy World of Arthur Brown

Firestarter-Prodigy

We Didn't Start the Fire-Billy Joel

Light My Fire-Doors

The Unforgettable Fire-U2

I'd want Highway To Hell. Or Las Ketchup, I haven't quite made up my mind.

In the absence of William Shatner or Ivor Biggun, I'll have a couple of songs from The Jam played back to back.

'Funeral Pyre' followed by 'Going Underground', methinks.

The only Jungle song appropriate to funeral's IMO is:

Remarc - R.I.P.

Which i want played at mine.

What about...

1) The end of Bruckner's 9th Symphony (Vienna Philharmonic of course).

followed by...

2) Laurie Anderson 'Strange Angels'

Depress everybody with Atmosphere by Joy Division as the coffin slides into the furnace, then hit 'em with the Theme from Happy Days.

There won't be a dry eye in the place.

my friend matt wants his coffin to enter the flames to the strains of eddie vedder singing 'i'm still alive' :D

my mum went to a funeral recently where the coffin was carried in to the archers theme tune and carried out to 'another one bites the dust'

i think i'd like ewan maccoll's 'the joy of living' and fairport convention's 'who knows where the time goes' (sandy denny singing, not simon nicol)

It's extremely tempting to go for Albinoni's Adagio, particularly seeing as all the famous Requiems (e.g. Verdi, Mozart) go on a bit. I dunno, it would depend on the mood.

yeah, you're better off deciding at the time. You'll have a far better gauge of the mood as they wheel you into the fire :p
Heh. I thought it would be possible to leave behind a set of options, you know.
