What song would you like to hear about an hour after 2009 comes in?

i wish i could play jesus built my hotrod. :(

however, in the absence of industrial metal, i'll be playing

europe - the final countdown

We could make a pact to play that Johnny Boy song at 1.15am - so it would be playing at the Albert, the Windmill and the Canterbury at the same time.

Down at the Railway I'll be just starting at 1:15. It'll be Jamaican ska for the first half hour.

Bobby Brown = greatness (FACT = first 7" I ever bought was the theme to Ghostbusters 2 by Bobby Brown)

Not so sure about Africa mind :hmm:

Africa went down crazily well at fifteen seconds past midnight.

What was the first song played wherever you were? (open question, not just to nipsla)

i played 'rock the casbah'. them loved it.

most of the rest of the night i played random tracks off a 4-disk motown comp... i tried playing other stuff occasionally, but people only danced when motown was on! :D

I played Proclaimers "500 Miles" followed by Human League, "Don't you want me baby?"

End result = total win! A full dancefloor singing along at the top of their voices. Best songs I've ever played for NYE, IMO.

Yeah that'd get anywhere going but we just wanted to do something a little weird that would still work so that's why we decided on Africa on a 2-1 vote.

Thing was though we were so jubilant about the response we forgot to cue up the next record and I had 15 seconds to get one on...luckily the first CD in the book was Arrested Development so I whacked on Mr Wendell just in time which set the mood for some happy hiphop with Jurassic 5, de la Soul etc before we fucked out heads with Jagemeister and played an inspired session of UK indie (her) meets 60s US psych-soul (me).

We're all back in action on Thursday night for a birthday party and I'm looking forward to what depths we can plumb and still keep the dancefloor heaving.

actually, at midnight itself i played a ruling funk version of auld lang syne. which resulted in people coming up to me for the next hour asking 'why didnt you play auld lang syne'...? :D
