Good quality cooking equipment is often more energy efficient, eg my le creuset casserole (a plain metal one, not a cast iron "status symbol") cooks food at a lower temperature and saves on gas.

I bet they'll last longer than cheaper cookware. My mum has a cast iron gratin dish which she was given as a wedding present about 40 years ago and which no doubt my sister or I will have after she is gone.
