what size le creuset?

It's totally true! It's a pink Le Creuset lasagne dish wot I got for a tenner in TK Maxx

I have that too and this which I love.

I would love some cast iron dishes.

That was approx when I got my lasagne dish. I s'pose they get batches of stuff.

Yeah, they had loads of Le Creuset at one point. Keep looking though. :) I'd offer to keep an eye out but I don't think posting it from Bournemouth is a good plan. :D

I had some dishes like cesares (in red) and they both cracked!!! :(

And I've got a couple of utensil jars in almond.

My Chasseur casserole is pale blue and I have a cast iron enamelled gratin dish too (Jamie Oliver :( ) in lime green.

:hmm:

Cracked! Oh noes, I put mine in the dishwasher and everything :(

They were both fine for a few months afair....but then both cracked...one of them didn't actually crack so far across that it broke in two, but it would have been foolish to risk using it iykwim...so it does as a dish to put my cactai (sp? :hmm: ) in instead... :D

I think they're supposed to go from hot to cold without trouble too (although maybe not past a max heat - I can't remember), but I didn't do anything I shouldn't have :hmm: as far I could work out :hmm:

I used them quite a bit too, but didn't want to risk shelling out for more after that (although my Jamie Oliver one is a perfect stand in tbf and NO DANGER of that one cracking :D )!

I guess mine probably will crack after a while. My plastic mixing bowl did :D Well, smashed would be a more accurate term cos it fell off a thing. But smashed, wtf! Plastic doesn't smash! I reckon the dishwasher makes things brittle after a while :hmm:

I have a 22 and a 26, crustychick. The 22 is used when it's just the two of us, and for making bread. The 26 is for "dinner parties" and you can easily serve 6-8 out of it. I wouldn't want it any bigger, tbh. Mine are green and orange, btw. :)

I'm back home now, checked the pot cupboard and I've a 22 as well. Which I reckon is more than comfortable for two people - tbh you could fit in food for four in most circumstances. It's basically as large, or larger than the largest saucepan that you tend to get in those sets of pans in every department store.

I've an urge to buy a larger Le Creuset or two, but I've got other casseroles and it seems beyond budget. My dear old ma has pretty much the entire huge collection too, so I'm clinging onto inheritance hopes and borrowing them in the meantime.

Most of my le Creuset collection is red, and my casserole dish is heart-shaped. Make of that what you will. :hmm:

It's the perfect size for veggie casseroles for two.

l have the square griddle pan and an. . . I don't know what. . . It's a saucepan with enamel inside, and the lid is an upside down frying pan with teflon inside. I don't use the griddle pan that much, just for occasional steaks or salmon fillets, but the saucepan/frying pan combo
I use all the time, fry off onions and meat, tip into the saucepan with other ingredients, bring to boil, then bung in oven as it doesn't have a wooden handle.

Effectively, I use that one pan as a frying pan, a saucepan and a casserole dish, so I really recommend getting one for sheer versatility and overall value for money.

Mine's in volcanic as well, because I'm a tradionalist at heart, I guess.

Thanks everyone :)

I'm still in a quandry over the :

22 + 26 combo vs 24 + 28 combo! aaaarrrgghhhhh... will have to go check them out in debenhams soon this weekend!

You measured yours BB? Why didn't you just turn it upside down and read out the obvious number (in circle) underneath?

:p

I'm not very good with measurements/distances. I saw 24 on the inside of the lid, but thought it looked bigger, so checked by measuring it :o

Helloooo!

OK - my oval one is 27 - as a guide I got 8 fat sausages and 3 cans of beans in there the other day as a casserole.

My large round one is a 24 and you can easily make a stew for 6, possibly even 8 people in there (depends how greedy they are!!). Can't remember what I last cooked in it....actually it was a beef stew that fed 4. It wasn't full though - I could easily have got half as much again in.

Smaller one is 20 - last thing I made in there was a chicken and rice pilaff that would feed 4 comfortably and that was the perfect size for that.

Hope that helps!

I have a Chasseur cast iron enamelled gratin dish. I love it so so much.

I have a steel Le Creuset casserole but no cast iron (never been able to commit to a colour and don't want to mix). But might go for Chasseur cast iron casseroles instead.

thanks Mrs M :) I think I will go for the 22 and 26 combo then, rather than the humungous 24 and 28 combo

exciting stuff!

It's a shame you can't fill them with food and try lifting them in the shop. I bought a cast iron frying pan that I can't actually pick up :D

No size or colour at all.

Unforgivably wanky status symbol shite for people with no concept of value. Only owned by complete cunts, unless as a gift.

I feel that I must confess to being a bit of a le creuset addict. I have a 28 and 22 in the standard round deep ones (both blue), a griddle pan (same colour) and a shallow casserole like the picture in 30cm and aqua/duck egg blue.

I love them all (although they've all been presents and I'm now wondering if that makes me a bit of a cooking geek).

My first was the 28 and personally I would say that's great for a first one as it's the most versatile. I probably use the 22cm one most, but that's for making 2 person casseroles. I could probably cook similar things in other vessels though. The 28 is the only thing to use if I'm doing casseroles for larger numbers. It's also great for soups, pot roasts and also things like mulled wine at christmas.

26" would probably be ok, but if you're asking for a present and whoever gives it is prepared to pay for 28" then I'd suggest going for that. I certainly have never found it too big.

If I had to replace mine for any reason I'd do it in the following order

- large one - cannot be replaced by anything else and feels so useful and feels like a luxury while knowing it should last forever.
- shallow large one
- griddle - partly because I don't have any other griddle pan
- small casserole - use it a lot, but it feels most like a luxury, ie. I could cook the same dishes without it.

hope that helps

and another thing - why not go to john lewis (or similar) and play with their le creuset to find out which feels right for you (they don't mind - when I was in john lewis looking for a new oven no one blinked an eyelid when i carried a load over from the saucepan department to the electrical goods section to see if my pots fitted in the oven I wanted). Having decided which you like then look on good old internet - amazon often have good deals on it, including sets.
