What should and shouldn't be kept in the fridge

People who keep bread in the fridge should be killed in the face with a sharpened spear of frozen cow dung.

"How'd you like your bread?"
"Ohhh, cold & soggy please!"

So wrong it makes morris dancing look right.....

we don't eat bread often so if I don't put it in the fridge it just gets wasted...

just toast it, and it won't be soggy.

ketchup's changed though hasn't it? They took the preservatives out a few years back and now you should really keep it in the fridge.

Although it ain't going to make a gnat's fart of difference at this temperature...

I keep my bread in the freezer taking two slices out and microwaving just before making a sarnie.

I think they took out the 'artificial' preservatives, but it still contains vinegar which is a natural preservative.
I've never kept ketchup in the fridge (nothing worse than freezing cold sauce on cheese on toast or with your chips). I've never heard of anyone getting food poisoning from it, or ever seen a bottle which has gone off (maybe we use it up quick enough)

Keeping pickled onions in the fridge is wrong imo. Surely the whole point of pickling them is to preserve them?

I think ketchup's got so much sugar that it mitigates against the preservative effect of the vinegar mind.

That said, I've no problem with leaving ketchup out - it doesn't bother me either way. If I lived in hotter climes it'd definitely be bunged in the fridge though. Flies, in particular, seem to be drawn ridiculously quickly to the sweet red stuff and I've seen far too many grim bottles contain 50% ketchup, 50% fly eggs...

eww
I think that would persuade me to keep it refridgerated tbh!
At the moment though, I think our kitchen is probably colder than the fridge, so I'll keep on living on the edge for now (but will be a bit more vigilant in the summer months) :)

our eggs live in the fridge. if they lived anywhere else, they'd come a cropper sure enough.

Eggs last for ages out of the fridge. If you are boiling an egg it will crack straight from the fridge.

I've never had that problem.

You could always fry the eggs instead. :)

No, no, no! These MUST be kept in the fridge cos it makes them extra crunchy! Ah, the mighty Garners pickled onion - how I love thee! :D

I keep potatoes in the fridge because there isn't anywhere to put them that's dark

It is a great method they last for years in there as well. I put eggs and bread in the fridge, stops the mold I find.
