What produce is worth going to Lidl for?

herbs are good and cheap

ice cream

matches - always have good pics on them

they sell organic veg in mine - and the non-organic is good

i got a good wetsuit for 20£ (you never know when they'll be back)

waterproofs for cycling - at 6.99 and 8.99 BARGAIN - they kept the rain off on friday

thermal socks

bread rolls ok

cheeses good

you are missing loads of random stuff on their two week rolling programme of kilts, wetsuits, shelves, motorcycle gloves, garden furniture, bras, tupperware, doormats, pet baskets, spirit stoves, tents,

there's a lot of fun to be had in lidl - get in there - remember to take your own bags cos they charge and there are no baskets only trolleys or boxes

dried, sorry. I think they may have fresh sometimes.

bottled water is v cheap unless you shun bottles and get it free out the tap

As a wildly general rule, the German stuff is worth investigating but I wouldn't bother with anything like Italian stuff. Italian food as interpreted by Germans and then imported to the UK? No thanks.

But they had lovely squid ink pasta which we enjoyed. Some of the Italian range is sourced from Italy.
I rate:-
The rocket - it's exactly the same size and type of packet and price as the stuff you can but in Italy - which is where it's from. :)
the roasted red peppers in a big jar.
Black forest sliced ham
The chocolate - dont buy the cheapest, the better stuff in there is delicious. Their biscuits are better than anywhere elses biscuits. (IMO)
The Chilean gran reserva Merlot for about four quid.

Their cheeses are very good for the money - parmesan and camembert particularly.

And booze, particularly top-end wine. If you're prepared to spend 6 quid on a bottle, you can get some great stuff. Plus all spirits.

The cat was far from impressed by any of their cat food. He even turned his nose up at the supposedly treaty stuff.

Yes, much of the stuff mentioned above. My cats like the dry cat food but not the tinned/packets but love Aldi's packets (one finally opened here at last!)

Don't touch their coffee or crisps - any form I've tried has been shite.

Fruit juices good & unacidified for the UK market.

Veg range is sometimes patchy here & the best value is often in larger quantities.

All the cereals I've tried has been fine but not bought the muslei myself. They are also one of the few own brands not made by Cereal Partners.

Shampoo. The basic stuff anyway good & very cheap.

Think the kilts should be due-in soon or we have just missed them. Part of the pre-Burns night tat.

I don't think we get the kilt option in London :D

Their pesto is good too. As are their bread type products. Some of their cereal is fine (someone said it was horrid) - the muesli type stuff is anyway.

And they do a lovely box of mixed ice lollies called a happy mix :o

Our cats like the pouches but not the tinned stuff. They prefer Lidl food to Aldi, which just goes to show it's all a matter of taste. :D

And Lidl do really good crisps imho, especially the sweet chilli ones which were on special over Xmas, and the salt and vinegar chipsticks.

I don't really drink coffee, but hendo's not keen on any of it.

Blimey, you lot buy a lot of chocolate and crisps. <wags finger> I don't think I've ever bought any at the supermarket

You may buy more once you tyr Lidl's better ones. ;)

Oh, softcake biscuits & minis - Never buy a Jaffa Cake again. :o

Everyone goes shopping stoned I expect :o

I like their mini ice creams. But thats cause I have children around alot in the summer.

Their Sangria was gorgeous and a snip, frozen Bautwerst (sp) spiced cold cuts, fruit juice minis, water, squid and seafood on the cold shelf.

I have never liked the look of their meat, except for the sausages coz everyone knows their full of crap anyway....

The random goods are the best bit though. I dare you to go and resist buying just one thing from that section...:D

Personal faves are:-

Black Forest Ham

The Quiche Lorraine

All cheese (especially Gorgonzola)

Frikadelen

Paprika Salami

Brioche

Cheap Malted Granary Bread

Grafen Walder and other German beers

Dirt cheap catfood

All biscuits and chocolate products

Cava

The jam

Don't buy the tea but the coffee's good (if you like instant)

A third nope :p

I don't buy crisps there, pogo is right, they're not that good. I do buy the bicuits for the men in the house and I like quality chocolate, none of that british rubbish.

Tbf I really like the Balti Mini Poppadums and those Cheese and Chive wheel things:o. My better half is a big fan of the 70% coco Amazonas choc.

OK tell us what you do buy, OU, and I'll tell you whether the Lidl variety is OK or not.
Just the basics really - oil, butter, veg, pancetta, fresh herbs - ingredients basically - stuff for cooking with rather than ready made munchies

This actually I find is the problem with Lidl. If I go there at all, I come out loaded with chocolate, cakes, biscuits, cheese, sausage etc, because those are the best things there. Conversely, if I go to my local Turkish shop I come out laden with interesting fruit and veg, unusual pickles, nuts and dried fruits, honey, olives, yoghourt etc. So I try to do the latter rather than the former as much as I can. Lidl is just too dangerous.

Part baked rolls with seeds - they do a packet of 12 rolls with three different seeds - absolutely delish.

Frickadelen
Cat likes the pouches
The frozen hot spicy chicken wings are really really good.
My husband rates the Cherry Brandy (with optional cherry on a stick)

They do the Paxo chestnut and cranberry stuffing for around a £1 - less than supermarkets (I love that stuff).
