what poor driving habits do you have?

dirtysanta said:
1. Speeding. I drive too fast. Especially middle of night on M-Ways.
2. Using my phone
3. Not indicating.
4. Going thru red lights when there is no-one around
5. Parking in the disabled space at Tesco :o
6. Loosing my temper with other road users and verbally abusing them (double :o )

You should be a lot more than embarrassed, you should be banned for life. I don't suppose that would stop you driving though, would it

I like to keep my foot down on the clutch, just before I break, or if I'm going downhill - when I was little I used to hear that if you did that it saved petrol (it was the 70s, during the petrol crisis, I believe) and that stuck with me!

Apart from that my driving is perfect! ;)
I used to do that tooo :o

3. i undertake on the motorway. I'm sorry but if people are going to sit in the wrong lane at 65mph it seems entirely fair enough to take them on the inside. With peoples dodgy use of lanes im pretty sure we should just go the american system of using whatver lane you feel like, but just keep lorries to the two left hand lanes.

Bollocks. It is not fair to endanger other road users just because you think they are going too slowly

Now then, I don't want to condone DS's driving habits, nor attack those who condemn them, but...

...am I the only person who reads threads like this and gets the urge to go out speeding on coke while making lewd remarks to the teenage crack whore in the passenger seat?

I have a feeling I might be...

No it wouldnt. Happy now ?

Christ i keep forgetting everyone on Urbans so fucking perfect.

1. eat while driving
2. drink (non alcoholic) while driving
3. smoke while driving ( I know it's a dirty habit)
4. Speed in NSL areas
5. Cross my hands while turning corners.

I also do that thing about the clutch when going down hill does it not save petrol then?

6. Listen and sing to loud music
7. Apply lip gloss
8. Race the lights on amber though I never go through a red.

I don't EVER talk on my mobile unless I have a hands free kit and even then it's too much distraction.

DS I can't wait for the video you rock :o

i didn't learn till i was over 30. a car's just not necessary in London. Out here in the sticks I'd be screwed without one though

God how boring. I used to be quite a fast driver (it's funny how you don't realise that you drive fast until you have passengers, and you notice that their knuckles are white), but since I've had a baby I drive well and safely (but not slowly), I always indicate, I'm decisive, I always assume that all other vehicles are just about to do something insane, and I really watch the road. :o And when someone pisses me off, I take a deep breath and don't react at all. I've got a decent car and I know how to drive it, and I'm usually in the right gear. :o

(I think I might actually be rather a good, careful driver :o )

Driving too slow.
Using the mobile / CB rig
Forgetting to disengage the tertialry overdrive gearbox when approaching traffic lights and then wondering why it is sluggish pulling away. :o
singing while driving.

Motorways generate bad habits because usually there is room to do it. Pick a lane to drive in or pick a lane to overtake in. Do speeds you wouldn't dream of anywhere else. Eating and drinking is easier because you only need one hand and sometimes none on the wheel. You rely on the person in front to spot hazards.

Generally I drive well everywhere but motorways.

Lots of good drivers on this thread... anyone got an advanced driving qualification, out of interest? I think Pig has.

Doing m/cycle training 15 years after passing my car test made me realise just how shit I am. I haven't had an accident since 1988, but even so... makes you realise how little awareness most car drivers have (including me). Something to do with sitting in an insulated metal box - it's your own little world.

Yeah this sounds right, motorways tend to put people into a bit of a zone that cossets them somehow.

As I'm getting older I find motorway driving more and more stressful, so I often let my girlfriend do it. I love driving around London because the drivers are so good and considerate. I feel privileged to be a working part of a courteous whole, making the best of streets meant for horse and carriage. :)

I like to be one of the fastest cars on the motorway. I rarely drive under 85 when I'm on my own. If people get too close to the butt of my car, I touch my foot on the brake pedal to freak them out. I intimidate people who sit in the middle lane. I'm probably a bit of a childish bully :( :o

Thought I was the only one who thought like that. A combination of stress and a really wallowy ride in the Polo diesel makes me feel really uneasy on motorways at speed. Much prefer taking the A roads where lane discipline is much better.

Also it must be something to do with the boredom of motorway driving unlike slowing up for roundabouts etc on A roads.

Motorways, hate 'em.

I watch you lot play the lane games on the motorway. Probably what caused the four car fatal I saw on Sunday :(

Speeding if its an empty road .prone to road rage (though
normally a good scream calms me down)Cycling always seem to have problems with lights either i forget them battries dies or te rear one falls off oh and a tendency to cycle on pavements if noone around though i give pedestrians
right of way .

No - I was berating you for driving when you weren't concentrating. I drive fast, I admit it, BUT I focus on what I'm doing. Which is why I only do it when I'm on my own in the car.

This is the sort of thing that winds me up. "I drive badly but it's ok cos I'm a good driver".

Fucking rolleyes too. Do you only do it when the roads are completely empty?

errrr...right. Iv probalbly been pulled for speeding or something maybe 30-40 times in 12yrs of driving. fucking

been banned 3 times. Twice under the totting up and once for being twice the limit.

:(

Never been banned, never drink or do drugs and drive and in twenty four years of driving, I've been done for speeding once.

So yeah, actually, I am a fucking good driver. Which is more than can be said for you clearly.

A dangerous idiot I would say.

Do you try and intimidate people when you don't have the 'protection' of your car, or do you fear getting your head kicked in?

That was in one of their Express stores. I have written to them requesting a copy of the CCTV ( as is my right, so ive been told ). As soon as recieve it ill put a link on Urban where everyone can have a good old larf at me staggering into the shelves and bringing the whole lot crashing down. Im looking forward to it myself. It was chaos :D

I wouldn't feel safe sharing the same supermarket as you, let alone the M4.

Apart from 2) and 5), doesn't seem too bad...

I do all of those apart from 2) and 5)! 4) I do rarely and mainly only at temporary lights and if I can see my route is DEFINITELY clear - too dangerous at fixed ones. (Did you know temporary traffic lights never used to have the force of law and were only advisory, and it was quite common to 'shoot' them, especially in the middle of the country at when the next car won't be for another 15 minutes...? ;)).

In fact the last time I shot red lights, I shot three of them in succession because ... I was following an Urbanite and didn't want to lose her :D. And that was in the midst of very dense town traffic...

I speed on motorways
I coast down hills
I ride the clutch on hills at traffic lights
I rarely have two hands on the wheel

Most drivers wouldn't pass their tests if they had to sit them tomorrow.
