what old punk floats your boat?

Ah, won't bother with them then
You should, though. Although I think Dub is overstating the tune count (and catchiness isn't the same as having a tune: everyone's favourite Kraut rockers, Can, have some catchy numbers that are completely devoid of tune, for example).

Try out the Crass retrospective, Best Before 1984, OU.

I never thought of Crass as punk at the time. They seemed to be a bunch of Sixties radicals trying to use punk for their own political agenda. Would agree that Penis Envy is pretty good but generally they were awfully po-faced and dull. Iggy Pop was the true grandfather of punk but that's another thread. :)

Oh, God, I wouldn't want anyone to get the idea that Crass floats my punk boat. I just think OU should check them out.

Surely The Fall for a number of reasons scores of great stuff, more original and reflective of the DIY ethic than many and constantly evolving. A great band.

Totally agree, but I also reckon that, in a way most other bands on this thread didn't, The Fall transcended the "punk" label. For me The Fall will always be in a genre of one. :)

Agreed. But that's what punk should have been about (partisan Fall fan). A lot of the bands mentioned where just comedy turns for me (with quite a lot of exceptions). I like a lot of much earlier yank stuff myself.

Used to be constantly playing the Centro Iberico in Westbourne Park.

The only other person here I know was a regular there was chico enrico.

Did you live down in the South West then?
I used to go there all the time.

Crass had much more swearing on their records than just about any other band at the time, apart from joke outfits like the Pork Dukes.

This probably contributed to sales among the younger end of their audience.

I'm a huge fan of the Fall. I have far more of their records than I do of any other band.

But I didn't list them because I don't think of them as Punk. Post-punk early on, but then what? Then they were The Fall.

Not sure you'd call them 'Punk' but Destroy All Monsters were pretyy good.

Still love hearing both sides of their single 'Meet the Creeper'/'November 22nd 1963'.

nooo -- listen to big a little a - crass changed everything

I can't imagine him liking them musically, but I'd recommend having a listen to 'Stations of the Crass'. :) Or get the single 'Bloody Revolutions' because the other side 'Persons Unknown' by the Poison Girls still sounds good today.

Must admit I hated the sound of Crass when I was a kid, but did like what they started and the bands they spourned.
