What? No Irish election thread?

Voting my have been slow but there was a 70% turn out according to RTE, impressive if you consider it was held on a Thursday in the middle of college exams.

Paddy Power are currently paying out on all bets backing Bertie as the next Taoiseach.

arse.

Aye, and 70% is the sort of turnout that we never see in the UK or the US.

Any idea how the PD are doing?

Vous êtes un enquiquiner et vous pensez que vous avez quelque chose signifiante pour dire...quel dommage que vous êtes un grand idiote qui pense qu'il est plus importante qu'il est déjà. Vous êtes un petit homme.

Sortez-vous maintenant!

tomorrow fucking afternoon

is that because of the complexity of the count or are they just lazy bastards?

No, I think it's because of the remoteness of some of the polling stations. The outlying islands voted on Wednesday...then, again, things do mover rather slowly in Ireland. :D

What a shite translation and only Altavista Babelfish could have given you such a rank translation. It didn't even translate the word "vous" or "etes". Indeed, it translated the word "dommage" as "damage". :D :D As for the word "enquiquiner", it sums you up. Another that sums you up is "branleur".

You really are quite a fucking tool, Schlock. You don't speak French, do you? :D

Silly cunt.

You really have no sense of humour, nino.

That's weak...but then, that's all one is likely to get from a serial thread-derailer and pest.

You thought you could translate from French into English and you failed miserably. Now, you're trying to save face. :D

Pillock.

Of course it was a Babelfish translation. I though it a translation which gave the most accurate representation of your thought processes.

This tickled me.

So, it seems that many Irish people think Fianna Fail could be kept in check by the likes of convicted gun runner and terrorist Martin Ferris, convicted terrorist Dessie Ellis, convicted terrorist Arthur Morgan, and the moral and intellectual vacuum that is Daithi Doolin, who has managed the unique trick of being a discredited politician before he has even been elected to the Dail.

Does anyone seriously think that Ahern and FF are going to sort out the health service mess?

Complexity of the count. Once someone is elected (by reaching the quote of votes necessary) all surlpus votes are then given to the 2nd preference on your ballot.

Say you voted, Sargent, Sargents gets in, all the excess votes get transfered to the 2nd preference. It means there are multipile rounds of voting, and leads to some complext tactical voting

For more details.

Remember PR, the metric system, the euro, and the smoking ban, all came into affect in Ireland, and somehow we coped just fine. Keep that in mind when some smug concending middle englander talks patronising about the "wee Irish, and their funny ways".

Ah, that's put it into better perspective. I figured there had to be a better reason than just logistics.
