what new stuff is good?

Give Bon Iver a whirl... really nice relaxed reflective new album... Supposedly recorded over 3 months in a cabin outside Wisconsin whislt he was 'hibernating' from the world... some poor quality recording, but in my mind made up for by the sometimes beautiful layered effect he produces of purely his own voice and self-played instruments.... see what yous think :)

I gave that a go, cos of all the hype (he really is bloody everywhere at the moment - I feel like I was in the fucking cabin with him ) but it's really 'meh'. His voice is different without really being any good, and musically it's just really anaemic.

Aha... well I can understand that to be honest... I didn't realise that he was everywhere, I'm rather out of touch recently...

For me it was just nice to listen to some relaxed guitar based sounds that were a bit different to all the 'indie' stuff (not that I'm against 'indie'). Frankly I'd compare him to James *expletive deleted* so wouldn't rage about him, but I found myself listening to it for the first time at work today and just drifted off to it... no work got done for half hour or so though :)

Found the thickness of the sound pretty nice without being ott... Maybe he caught that soft old romantic side of me - that I try to repress - off guard....

Wooden Shjips

i'm checking out those other links you posted, all likes so far, dude. wooden shjips are pretty good, i downloaded some a while back cos some blogger was frothing at the gash about them and it was worth it.

if you like a bit of drum and bass the new sub focus album is alright (i've only had a quick listen however)

the new dizzee rascal album is more of the same, and i swear there was another album i was going to get hold of but i forgot what it was

The Low Anthem - Oh My God, Charlie Darwin

not a new band, but it's a new album (well, not tremendously new actually), and it's really rather good

not sure what sort of stuff you're into though

Apparently his grand mass for the dead is quite good as well (I'm not going to attempt to spell its French name) - 4 brass bands, a fucking great orchestra and some choirs. Mental.

Slaughterhouse!!!

Joel ortiz, royce da 5"9, joe buddens and crooked I.

All decent lyrically and they have some fine beats.

tis some good hip-hop.

I am going to buy the new Twilight Sad and Mum albums when I have some money. I don't know if they're any good though, cos I haven't heard them yet.

Also check out Good news by Withered Hand. It's anti-folk from Edinburgh, with lots of cello and banjo, and funny and sad lyrics.

I just discovered Passanger of Shit , think he's from Oz, worth visiting the site just for the totally bent myspace page shitwankrecords

this guy knows his noise'n'beatz

had a listen to that, and quite like it

have u heard 'monster zoku onsomb!' also australian, you'll probably like them if you aint heard any.
