What is your favoutite airport in London?

Nah, I'd think Luton was a crap airport even if I lived in a campervan in the carpark.

And you'd be right. It's a grade-A shithole.

City's best, 'cos of the views you get on takeoff and 'cos the planes take off in an almost vertical fashion.

What's the RAF base in NW London? When you drive past it on the A40, the street lights get about 20 feet shorter for half a mile to accomodate incoming flights.

yes but it doesnt serve public flights, its private only afaik. you couldnt just rock up and get on a plane to spain.

That's right just private planes fly from Biggin Hill, although they are constantly threatening to expand it.

It's closer to London than Gatwick, Luton and Stanstead. I like it cos it's near to me, yet the little planes that fly from there don't disturb my peace.

The so called "London Luton" airport is not only not in London but is not even in the Home Counties. At this rate they will be renaming Manchester airport as "London Manchester". The same applies to Stanstead which was just a bit of coast favoured by wild birds before they built it.

When the sea level rises in a few years time the only way you will be able to fly into London will be by seaplane. That could save on runway maintenance.

Gatwick, but only because I live just off the Brighton mainline so it's pretty damned convenient.

Definitely heathrow cos u can get there by tube. and it's big and nice.

stansted is crap n I haven't used gatwick much.

That be RAF Northolt , which at one stage was being mooted as a "satellite" airport/runway of Heathrow [despite being stuck well away from it with no decent transport links - well apart from the 140 bus ].

My fave is Heathrow , but then again I used to live in Hayes when I were a nipper so it is more than just another airport to me

how about least favourite airport?

i can't stand stansted. it's so damn expensive to get to and you can't get there for early flights without leaving the night before, and the only flights are early flights. i've spent way too much of my time lying awake on the stupid floor there.

it's alright coming back into, but leaving from, boo.

heathrow, because it's the cheapest to get to wherever you live.

i voted for city, though, as it's the quickest to get to from where i live and my single experience travelling from there was quite pleasant.

To be fair - Luton is just being done up - and living on FCC Thameslink makes it a doddle to get there - 10 mins train and a brillinat bus shuttle from the station.

Nothing beats the purgatory of the haul to Heathrow on the Piccadilly line - especially coming back from a red eye long haul.
