A ditch digger?
that's the conclusion i was coming to
Bagger 288's grandson.
How does it work?
like about so
These machines were used to dig drainage ditches across soggy fields. A ditch would be dug and a 6 inch porous pipe laid in that led to the nearest large ditch and the earth then replaced. Unfortunately this once caused an aircraft accident. A rather heavy Second World War fighter called a Sea Fury taxied across what appeared to be a nice dry hard field but one of these porous pipes collapsed as the aircraft passed over it and the plane tripped over and fell on it’s nose. Very expensive! But the machine is rather splendid in a Heath-Robinson sort of way.
Could do with a smaller one for my garden, which is a swamp from November until May.
