Only a year late, but vindication at last that I wasn't imagining it!

1915 Plan of the flue between the Albert Hall boiler house and the chimney

The Survey of London volume for South Ken is now available online at:
http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=47525
Apparently the chimney was constructed on its present site in 1884.

I've jsut got this picture off of google earth -
is it the pillar to the centre left of the picture with a semi-circle at its base?
it looks like its free standing - if this is what we are talking about of course...
