What is the Swan, Stockwell like?

What's the place that's about halfway down Stockwell Road, on the left hand side as you're coming from Stockwell to Brixton?

Aha! That will be the J-Bar then:

A strange place. Having a face lift at the moment. It involves all the doors and windows being bricked up... and then painted.

My theory is that it is the SW9 tardis.

That's the one I meant.

A funny shade of yellow (:o @ self!) though I think it used to be.

yes, that was it. i double checked when i came home past it just now. there were still people milling around outside at 4am. the brixton tardis definitely bends space and time...!

I was in there (the swan) for new year's eve 93 or 94 - not the best ever but at least it was cheap. Ended up dancing to New Year's Day by U2 with lots of drunk Irish blokes. Am happy to have moved on...

i know someone who got to know her husband in there. they now have got 3 children together under the age of 3. :)

Haven't been back to The Swan since we witnessed someone having the shit kicked out of him buy one of the doormen.

I haven't been back since the early to mid 90's - it's one of the few places I've been asked to leave or didn't get in because I was wearing trainers... Agree with the previous posts about the bouncers. It's got to be a similar club that inspired The Specials song, Friday Night Saturday Morning.

"Bouncers bouncing through the night
Trying to stop or start a fight"

"But two o'clock has come again
It's time to leave this paradise
Hope the chip shop isn't closed
Cos' their pies are really nice
I'll eat in the taxi queue
Standing in someone else's spew
Wish I had lipstick on my shirt
Instead of piss stains on my shoes"
