What is it about England, Scotland and Wales that makes them all so poor at international football? Each country is dramatically outperformed by similar size countries with smaller domestic leagues. Proportionally England is probably the worst - but there are countries at this WC with tiny populations and even smaller domestic leagues that qualify, and do ok.
I was trying to look around for a site with some comparable metrics. Population, number of professional football teams, international football record. If we could somehow turn that into a handy stat to compare countries...
