I think the problem is that England always let the other side score more goals than them. If they stopped that, and instead scored more goals than their opponents, then they'd win more.

I think that's a bit harsh on him, the problem has mostly been trying to fit two round pegs into a single round hole, and compromising by stuffing one in the square and other in the triangle.
