What is the English equivalent of Asterix?

Popeye and Inspector Gadget were Americans, so they are ruled out

The reason Asterix is good is that as well as being witty and exciting, he was also incredibly French, you could not mistake him for another coutnry at all, he never gets the girl, and he is fighting a hopeless battle which he won't win, but he has superpowers which means he will never lose either, just carry on fighting his battle

he's as french as Marianne running about with her tits oot

Dangermouse is just as English because he is an altogether shady character, he's an obvious pisstake of James Bond, he goes on adventures all over the globe, and gets into increasingly surreal situations. He recognises the surrealism of the situation, but being English he just pretend that nothing has happened. He even has a friend from a lower class than him to patronise. He is also a miserable sarcastic cunt :D

I approve of this post.

Rupert was a tedious convervative reactionary, hence his billion year service in the Daily Express.

So, we're looking for a drug taking freedom fighter from English/British myth? Hmmm...

Gadget's roots are slightyly weird - the creation of a Luxebourgish company, DIC, from when it set up it's US office...

I saw it on TV this morning. It was all modern and shit.
I want to see it animated like the books not some cosgrove hall clone puppets.

Was that the Rupert the Bear on Channel 5? There's an animated one which is much more true to the books that they show on CITV at about 3ish on a weekday.

No he isn't, he has insane adventures in the old ones, he was friends with elves and talking birds and stuff

He is rubbish now, the fame went to his head
