What is Screamo?

From what I remember, it's a bit sort of grunge/pop-punkish - I guess it's probably quite 90s Emo, really.

I also remember it not being a particularly good record...

I've got the EP too somewhere, which I think is harder (more "hardcore Emo").

AMG says:

"the vocal style of singer Garrett Klahn sounds something akin to Richard Marx doing indie rock"

Hmmm.

I really only got 'em cos drummer Chris Daly went on to be in Jets to Brazil...

exactly. proper emo - which is excellent - is probably more like 'screamo' (dumb fucking term) than the crap that's been masquerading as emo for ages. So although I've not heard much screamo, i suspect it's pretty good
fucking proper emo is soooo rubbish, like that fucking fugazi lot, what a bunch of tossers.

This new emo is way more fun.

Get with it gramps - actually, no, you can't.

Why don't you go and cry about it and turn it into an emo record.

with close ties to hardcore and grindcore.

idont now what grindcore is,

but i think the only close ties a proper hardcore band would have with screamo is the constant dissing (read hatred)

please listen to some proper hardcore, try sick of it all for a start, then move on to say, leftover crack! they rule!

i dont no the last 2 bands, but bad brains and the adolescents certainly count as proper hardcore.

Definitely worth checking out "Born Innocent" by Red Kross and "Generic" by Flipper.

Or Angry Samoans, TSOL, the Misfits, MDC, Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, the Germs, Suicidal Tendancies, D.O.A...

:)
