What is it that makes Brixton special?

dodgier than the usual Brixton massif? All the nutjobs that shout at folk at the bus stops while doddging crack dealers?

Never been down Brixton Hill ... apparently I am missing something?

It's where the genteel people of South London hang out. The peasants are thrown Tulse Hill way so we can go shooting at weekends whilst picnicking in the Park

How sad. It must get cold in winter. :(

I live here

That looks very famliar.

Is that Clapham Park Road on the corner where the small row of shops is?

I thought you lived on Lyham Road?

Nah, that's clearly Brockwell cunting Gate or whatever they've branded it now.

It's like a housing estate, but a posher one with gates and more buy to let.

To get back to the OP...I agree with the points about topography and the melting pot. I also find that people are more talkative to strangers than they are in other parts of London. You don't get that 'British reserve' in Brixton. I think it's the Afro-Caribbean influence. But it seems to affect everybody.

There's a lot of local pride here - perhaps because the Windrush Square area looks so good? Perhaps because everyone is aware of Brixton's history and reputation?

To me, every day in Brixton is like a holiday - I feel as if I'm travelling in a foreign country, but with London weather. It does help that I work not-too-many hours from home and I just stroll around the market and the Coldharbour area whenever I feel like it. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else now.

Yes. OP was wondering how I knew he lived there. He needs to check his previous posts.

In fact, the picture should be taken down. He could be being burgled as we speak :D

It's not that posh....maybe the top by Tesco, but the lower entrance, by the Park Gate is not posh - it's council/buy to let - and it didn't have a gate until the doping fucking housing association wasted 40grand retro fitting one that's not even connected to my FUCKING INTERCOM SYSTEM!!!!!!!!

...anyway, it's not posh by the Park Gates.
