What is grime?

All sounds 'orrible. What's the matter with young people today? Why don't they like a nice tune you can sing along to, like Purple Haze, or Pretty Vacant?

Well, Purple Haze would have elicited a similar response from an eldster when it was released...FFS, even Mozart was considered 'unlistenable' by some in Vienna when he was starting out.

Old fart;);p:D

Grime is a a type of music that has sort of evolved from UK garage. Back it the day garage was garage, now it has sort of split into a few genres such as 4x4(all the girly vocal garage), two step(The bumpy bassy stuff), and grime (now grimes not my cup'o tea, it in my eyes is shit but thats another story)

Might have got it wrong as D'n'B is my love. But thats how I understand it.....

...er.. yes.. well i was being what our American cousins call "ironic".
I remember my dad turning the motor mower on deliberately when Hendrix came on the Lulu show so I couldn't hear him...
And when Jimi died my dad slung the Evening News on the kitchen table and said to me with a grin: "Your mate's dead.."

HAHA, the irony is that the petrol mower sound is probably a standard sample in some gabba trax!!!:D:D
Yeah! Hope so. That got my dad back!!
And I saw the Lulu thing anyway 34 years later on one of those tedious "100 Best" shows.
It was great, he did Cream's Sunshine of your Love ...

I'm a garage, and drum and bass DJ from London, I own Wax Fm 102.4 www.waxfm.com a London pirate station.

Grime, is a style of Garage, the same way, Grimey Drum and Bass is the harder stuff of dnb, Grime on its own, is refered to as the music style from Garage, its a 4x4 repeated beat, oftern without any lyrics, just pure beats/bass line, its intended for MCS to mc, spit over the top of.

Its the dirtier style of garage, darker, more underground style.

Basicly Vocal Garage is for the girls, Grime for the boys, thats the comparason. Its the heavyier style. Same with Grimey, Drum and Bass or Grime, refering to heavy, drum and bass. the word grime = dirty. its the dirty style.

Up front fm, rinse, flava, my station wax fm on a tuesday for examples of grime at its best.

When I play grime, I play so the mcs have a tune to mc over, and can flow without getting twisted up with vocals on the tunes.

PS "fix up look sharp" as in Dizzee rascal, is not grime, his style of music is COMMERICAL GARAGE, as with Lady Soverion, ms dynmite.

Grime is also known as, Eski, dublow, sublow. underground garage.
