What in the name of holy fuck? (New Oklahoma abortion law)

Therefore I put it to you that it's more likely to be something like 5,000 a year. Maybe you just got carried away with all those zeroes
You're right, or more righter . . I blame the dyslexia.

Looking around on Google it seems "Over 7,000 . . " NHS abortions is a popular refrain in relation to Irish women.

Can't think it would get close to 50,00 even including all the Poles and south Europeans.

Naming and shaming is wrong, it will do nothing to stop girls having abortions imo. I do however think it is to easy, my mates 14 year old had an abortion without her mum even knowing and it caused heartbreak to her and her family. i dont agree with abortion unless its extreme circumstances. i feel uncomfortable about binning innocent babys just because we can.
Mind you i am catholic, so what do i know we're all nuts :p

I see no reason why women shouldn't be asked the relationship with the dad and why they are having the abortion, by their doctor or a shrink or some sort of medical professional. That seems fair enough as long as the procedure isn't denied permission on that basis.

Race??? Umm no fuck off. Publishing anything on an official website, seriously FUCK OFF.

How the fuck do they reckon that should be public knowledge it also seriously fucks over anyone living out in the burbs where there is possibly only going to be one person with that name. Lets see how long it takes for some body who is on the list to have their house set on fire or to get beaten/murdered. Im guessing within a month of the list going live.:mad:

I feel uncomfortable with the emotive language that gets thrown around all too easily with this issue

I'm guessing Mr M Mouse is going to be found to have been putting it about a bit...

In the UK, when someone decided you had to register for AIDS tests, I believe the same Mr Mouse found himself rather regularly getting tested, with the happy connivance of many centres...

In the original Guardian link, as referenced by the OP it says the names are not required. But as you say it wouldn't be too hard for anyone who was so inclined to convince themselves they were right about Mrs Up The Road, by making guesses based on the info in the website.

As for the docs knowingly providing false information to the authorities, I doubt that's a runner.
Doctors face prosecution and loss of their medical licences for failing to provide the state with the required information.

And what about these two nuggets of lovliness?

Last month a judge struck down a state law requiring a doctor about to perform an abortion to carry out an ultrasound with the screen positioned in front of the mother and to then describe the developing limbs and organs of the foetus. The woman could not be forced to look at the screen but would have no choice but to listen to the doctor's description.

The law required that the ultrasound be carried out vaginally if the pregnancy was in its early stages in order to get a clear picture. Rape victims were not exempted

i think you should take that up with the catholic church sweetheart, it's simply not in my remit to defend the church, but while your emailing the vatican would you ask if they'll sub me a few quid for xmas, im a bit skint like :) ta

Most restrictive abortion laws in Europe. Gotta love Catholicism

Poland is no worse than Spain or Portugal

If by "worse" you mean the weight of the church, I might agree.
However, abortion during the first trimester is perfectly legal here since the 2007 referendum.

Jeez-oh Sass, give us a minute!

I personally feel that a foetus becomes a human being at the point in which it is delivered. I do however, see the need for a cut-off point for abortions, and I feel that the current point is acceptable all round.

A bundle of fertilised cells may eventually become a human being but at the zygote stage cannot in all seriousness be called a baby.

Really? I can't find any evidence of that whatsoever.
Abortion in Ireland is illegal unless the pregnancy is in threat of endangering the life of the woman (as differential to her health) through continuance of the pregnancy

Where did you get that from? If that's the case, why do 1000s of Irish women travel to NI or England for abortions?

It is not in my REMIT to do so, <<< i think i SAID that actually. and all other faces of expression :) etc

I'm not bothered whether it is your remit or not to defend the Catholic church.

What I want to know, is how can you believe in an organisation and not defend it when it is criticised?

Actually, not "the first trimester", but the first 10 weeks. For all that matters, it's still more progressive than many countries with no god-botherers.

Really? What countries don't have god-botherers? Britain is about as secular as it gets. Russia and China have no qualms regarding abortion that I know of.

I meant that women are going to abortion clinics all skipping and frolicking, laughing gayly all the way and that this should STOP.

I was being sarcastic. The quote in the article said they wanted women to feel more nervous about going for abortions. It's in the article. Up there /\ /\ /\. In the OP. The quoted bit.

Ah ----- brain took a day off today ! :)

I thought you were answering to me. I made that point (that Portugal isn't in the same boat as Poland, Ireland or even Spain) for a reason which will follow:

Really? What countries don't have god-botherers? Britain is about as secular as it gets. Russia and China have no qualms regarding abortion that I know of.

Portugal is also secular (sadly there are a lot of people that try to blur the lines), but every time I see the issue of religion raised, we're treated like some sort of Holywoodesque Central American banana republic, with the shadow bishop calling the strings of a politician. Yes, the vast majority of people here are Roman Catholic, but that doesn't automatically mean every one of them will follow the orders of the Emperor Palpatine in the Vatican, or even care that much on what he thinks. A good friend of mine is quite catholic, but she sees the church as a thing of faith, not of social/political guidance. I guess now most people here are this way.

I'd have thought that was quite obvious. It's a foetus. Not a baby. Despite how much anti-abortionists might claim otherwise.

oki doki, This is how it works in my world.
Man woman fall into lust / love or a quick bang :o whatever Lol , Anyway , jiggy jiggy FfIRE !!! woman and man create a little person, after a few weeks in the womb this little person is developing, beating heart little fingers etc etc. i thought this was how the world grew, im missing something then eh ? tis just a foetus and why should we care then :hmm:
by the way i realise that in some circumstances abortion is the only answer for some girls so im not anti abortion , i would just like to see less abortion, more respect for an innocent little life :) we dont agree i know, but thats fine :)

Why should i ? to you anyway, is that in the rules like ? lol . Look, the catholic church is always getting criticised. Hardly surprising either is it, the way theyve handled things behind closed doors, THEY are a disgrace. NOT all catholics are evil believe it or not, some of us are ok , i cant defend those who are not. Theres your answer.
