Tonight the kids are on sleepovers at their mates so i indulged myself with a TBone topped with Prawns in Brandy,Cream and Garlic sauce, italian potatoes and beans

This thread has inspired me to get into the kitchen and make some chocolate brownies. Well, I will once I can arsed to get out of this chair.

I'm slightly embarrassed now that I only managed to cooked once this week and that was on Monday when I celbrated the fact I was just cooking for myself and not the boyf who would have prolly turned his nose up at the following:

Spagehetti with king prawns and rocket cooked in garlic, dried chilli flakes, white wine, sun dried tomato puree, lemon juice and a spoonful of mascarpone to finish. Was flippin loved and served for lunch the next day too :) Jamie Oliver clearly didnt waste all his time mincing round Italy for nowt :)

Not very adventurous in the kitchen.

Made various amounts of home made macaroni cheese/ cauli/ veggie/pasta bake in cheese sauce.

With steamed salmon and baked rainbow trout for my son(s). Eaten only by one of them ( )

Sunday did veggie toad-in-the-hole with cauli cheese and Mediterranean veggies.

Attempted a garlic mushroom in cheese sauce starter for him yesterday I have no idea what became of it or the dish I put it in I think he chucked it over the hedge

I might make a cake if I can be arsed.

Made some chocolate truffles for my friend's birthday this morning, as I'm skint until next week and didn't want to let her 30th go by without some sort of offering...well messy though, how the fuck are you supposed to shape them into perfect little balls before they start melting all over your hands? Mine look more like those mud pyramids that worms make in wet soil.

They're still chocolate though, so who cares?

They were shit.

I keep forgetting to put simple ingredients in – like flour

Poor Skim Junior. What were you thinking, bringing a child into this world when you can't even make it chocolate brownies?

*shakes head sadly*

Crap, innit? How can I be a mum if I can't even bake?

My Betty Crocker dream is over :(

I made pea and asparagus risotto (way to much of it in fact) so used to rest the following day to make risotto cakes with taleggio stuffed in the middle.

Yesterday, chunk of shoulder lamb marinated in yougurt, mint, coriander leaf and garlic then roasted (recipe jamie oliver)with potatoes and rice and peas, cooked together and flavoured with cumin seed turmeric, cayenne, salt and coriander leaf (recipe my new book of rice).

Lush!

Ooh... stew sounds nice. It's raining outside now and the idea of dumplings suddenly seems very attractive
I did a vast pot of stew yesterday so will be mostly eating that for 3 days :) Added red wine, parsley and thyme, and paprika to the usual ingredients and it is phwoar!

Saturday I did a korma

No friggin idea what I did last week - I don't remember more than 2 days at a time

I did make a chicken soup with dumplings yesterday. It was ok, but some herbs would have really pepped it up.

Bought a book on rice dishes this week and am considering azerbhajani lamb pilaf for Saturday or sunday.

That sounds lovely, any chance of the recipe if you have a moment?

I made roast vegetable soup yesterday, but I think I may have over done the chilli *slightly*, three bean stew which was lovely and baked sweet potatoes with stir-fried vegetables.

Actually what I really need is more inspired vegetarian dishes, my poor housemate is getting a bit bored with my five vegetarian dishes on rotate.

homemade bagels. They're pretty good, and about 1/10th the price of buying them at the bakery!

I don't think it'll get more exciting than that this week, though, since boyfriend is working late, and i don't really make the effort just for myself.

Just a note for next time, pat your palms in cocoa powder, like you dust your hands with flour when doing doughy things, and then roll them. Less sticky and gives you a bit of grip on the little buggers.

I made spag bol last night. Twas yummy and Mr Butcher gave me the last of his mince for the same price as 1lb of it and there was quite a bit more than a 1lb. I even Tupperwared it so that Flashy could nuke it when he returned from the pub

One of my all time fav dishes the night before. Pasta with green peppers, bacon, toms and melty cheese on the top. Even better cold which is what I had for lunch today.

Veg Chilli, Meat chilli, Veg curry, Pork rogan, chicken supreme, lamb in honey, thyme and worcester, apple crumbles

... Filling freezer :)

Ackee and saltfish with dumplings and plantain
Pasta arrabiata (with lots and lots of chili :D )
Lots of toast
Homemade organic turkey burgers with a nice fat salad.

I'd say I've excelled myself this week :)

My gf hates me cooking all the time even though she loves the food. She thinks it takes away her domestic godess status..

Things are looking up tonight. I've prepared a cottage pie all ready to heat up, and I'm doing an apple crumble presently. It's going to be very hearty and fuzzy round Skim Heights this evening

Over the w/end I made:

Bread
Staffordshire oatcakes (still perfecting my recipe!)
Carrot & coriander soup
Lemon drizzle cake

Last night I made linguine with olive oil, peas, basil, garlic and toasted sunflower seeds

:)

Ooh... it's never occured to me to try and make oatcakes. Probably because they sell them in Sainsbury's and I'm a lazy bint.

No bloody Sainsbury's round here sells the buggers - hence my need to learn!

My Dad was from Staffs so he had his own 'secret recipe' that he never divulged. After he died for years I wondered if I'd ever eat 'em again until .... ta da! Sainburys! But, alas, down here in Devon-land there's none to be seen :(

Apparantly oatcake recipes are all jealously guarded and they think they originate from troops coming back from India and trying to replicate chapartis with local ingredients!

I've only made 2 batches so far - it's real trial and error - but I reckon my next batch will turn out perfick :)

My Dad would be proud :)

I've refound my love of preparing food just for me :) so last night I had pasta with leeks, bacon, creme fraiche and parmesan

the night before was a carbonara which just rocked :)

tonight I don't know yet, have to pop to the shops so I'll pick something up I think :) really shouldn't have pasta again but I'm in a real mood for it atm

Inspired by another thread, I made jerk chicken last night. It was lovely, but I don't think I've got the recipe quite right yet.

Over the last few days...

Potato pancakes

A lentil & mushroom loaf with roasted veg... including beetroot (a first for me!) I've not liked beetroot since I was a kid, it's ok grated onto a salad but I have never liked it on it's own... until now. My mate has a glut of it growing on his garden so I thought I'd give it a go, and glad I did :D

Chickpea and aubergine curry

Veg and pasta in a cheese sauce

Dahl & chapatis

Pizza

Tonight I'm gonna make a spinach and cottage cheese lasagne :)

eta: and an apple and blackberry crumble :)
