What happens to Labour when it loses ?

Erm 2/3 terms in the wilderness squabbling until they finally reinvent themselves as yet another variation of the Tory party and win a pointless victory.

The future of the Labour Party post-2009/2010 is very interesting in terms of party politics. Fractious lefty and right groups aside, the UK has not had mainstream parties splitting up and reforming since the SDP/Liberal union in 1988. I can forsee the more traditional side of the Labour party trying to hold on with the NL types either joining other parties or forming a new SDP-type party.

Earlier posts mention the BNP. Their vote share is increasing in great strides across the country often at the expense of Labour. When voters try to find a credible working class voice speaking their language but can only find the BNP, that is when you know there is trouble ahead

I think they will radically restructure themselves to follow proper socialist ideals, work hard to develop a popular following and with mass support throw out the Tories and renationalise everything.

Only joking! They'll bugger about for a while voting in ridiculous party leaders and then kicking them out, picking up Tory policies or whatever seems to be in the papers a lot, stabbing each other in the back, whinging about losing the election, blaming each other for it and eulogising Blair (maybe).

yeah I imagine the mainstream media story will be that Gordon Brown's "lurch to the left" was comprehensively rejected by the British public...

In dreamland they'd throw off the nulab shite and become a credible, electable left.

See, most people aren't like you. They don't want to steal from the successful. THEY WANT TO DO IT FOR THEMSELVES. They want to BE successful. Second-hand thunder is a fart. Which is what you'll only ever be unless you wise up and quit being a scrubber, for which I'm NOT holding my breath :D

What happens to labour when it loses depends a lot on how competent the tories are in power.

If the tories are reasonably competent then labour will go through at least the same forelock tugging self doubt and leadership crises as the tories themselves went through these past years.

That will go on until the tories have been in power long enough at which time the baton will be passed again.
