I may be missing something obvious but why would you want to take a bike on a tube or DLR train in the first place? Couldn't you just, you know, ride it to get to where you want to go. Isn't that the whole purpose of it.
FWIW I've had about four people chucked off various forms of transport when they have ignored the warning signs and taken bikes into carriages I've been in. Given the staff will strike at the drop of a hat over any perceived threat to safety, it seems a no brainer to make a stand against people breaking rules that are there to ensure public safety. I don't fancy getting stuck inside some smoke filled tunnel behind some bloke trying to haul his multi-spoked racer along the tracks.
I used to take my bike when I had a three-mile ride, then a train ride, then a four-mile ride. So, no, riding the whole way wasn't an option. Lots of people do combined journeys like that.
You actually reported people for having bikes on the train? Was the carriage really full then?
