What happened to the Socialist Labour Party?

When in doubt...Wiki. The SLP are still going but has been mentioned above, the group is only hobbling into decline. I dare say they will not be seen in any forthcoming by-elections; how many council elections did the SLP stand in?

Why do all the threads on Urban75 seem to end up with the same old posters attacking other posters in such a dull way? I read the posts and after a few postings i learn nothing about the original subject.

What was the original subject?

It's the way of the internet forum. Answers usually come in the first few posts and then it collapses like a soufflé in a cupboard.....

True, but if you're soapy enough to put a souffle in a cupboard in the first place aren't you actually inviting it's collapse?

Well, a lot of people on these boards are miserably poor communicators, and love their insults. They all seem to come from Socialist parties, whether it be New Labour, the Socialist Labour Party, or any others.

Mind you, anarchists are pretty good at their playground abuse too. Not that I'm above it, as I do love catchy one-liners (catchy one-liners which are that bit better than calling someone a 'fucking tory twat', mind you  )

I'm a Socialist, and I can't stop rolling my eyes at all this low grade abuse.

'Articulate your Outrage - Don't just let it all hang out'

Now that's pretty catchy, dontcha think? :p

The SLP and I think Scargil himself are involved in a debate at my local in Manchester tomorrow evening. Think I might go along, more out of curiosity more than anything.

Linky.

Imo, the libertarian non hierarchial left, if we have to use labels is by far the biggest left constituency in the UK, its just that there is no organisation for them and the SWP fundamentalists shout the loudest. Peter tatchell thinks the new Green Left tendency in the Green Party may be the answer, God we need something and soon!

For the record (if U75 has one ). I am an independent socialist. I am not in any political party. I am not interested in joining anyone's political party. In your own different ways you're all as bad as each other, and so I'm not interested.

All socialist parties are in denial at the numbers of socialists who have gone independent. I'm also not an anarchist. I am interested in anarchist politics as a socialist, from a socialist perspective, especially in relation to their rejection of a rigid party line.

Mick Rix leaving didnt help when he was elected he was the first GS to be SLP in a powerful trade union within in the year he had joined up to the labour party the slp lost a cash cow and there best long term bet as leader

Apparently the SLP have announced they will be standing across Scotland next year to attempt to profit from the split in the SSP. (Unlikely!)
The SLP's biggest handicap was the fact that it was built around the cult of personality of Scargill in a crypto-Stalinist way. He demanded no Trots or factions and used the real Stalinists as his errand boys. Then when the intolerant Party was suitably reduced to a small sect around a demagogue, the Stalinists left or were ejected to. Result - complete irrelevance.
