What happened to Mark Cousins (off of Moviedrome)

We now know that Mark Cousins disappeared to make a huge long series on the history of cinema, which I got bored with at about 1980. First few episodes in particular are fascinating, especially about the development of film grammar.

I don't even get the harping on about his voice. It's not like he can or should change it to make it more like some bland TV announcer voice. It worked for the intend that it was his personal history of film.

Alex Cox was boss Moviedrome Man....and he did some ace Spaghetti Western Seasons on BBC 2 . I do like Cousins, but his voice tends to lull me to sleep. I'd be 5 mins into to The story of film and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

It's gonna take me 15 years to watch it all at this rate.....even the book has a sleepy style...

You can download Cox's Moviedrome booklets here: http://www.alexcox.com/freestuff.htm

I also recommend downloading his free book he wrote at Uni about Spaghetti Westerns....an ace read that feels like a big looooooooooooonnnnnngggggggggg moviedrome intro.

there was a depressing article in the Guardian on Friday (i think) about how all the interesting cinema has been driven from our tv screens. How this time in 1987 you'd have been able to see any number of classic b&w and 'art' movies in reasonable slots on BBC2 and especially C4

When I did movie reviews I got every DVD that was released send to me, usually more than I could watch in a week (I still have a huge backlog from that period). There would be loads of new films that you never really heard anything about even from their own press (and some had well known actors), some quite interesting, cool and leftfield ideas.
. . but it is always the same old shit on the telly.
