What guitar?

Not actually sure how mandolin's are strung. Tempted to get one though, probably next year.

8 strings, double courses tuned GDAE (standard tuning. As with all string instruments, there's different strokes [and tunings!] for different folks).

IME, yes.

Basically you can't make the soundbox big enough to give decent volume without ending up with a modern-day equivalent to the fat-bellied Guitarron beloved of Mariachi bands.

So you're looking at an electro-acoustic (and an amp, natch) if you want to be heard.
A stranger in the camp :p

I was just thinking of an acoustic for at home really, but if I wanted to do any thing else, I know it wouldnt be much use for that.

I played keyboards originally and then went onto guitar through being frustrated at not being able to explain to the guitarists in the band what I wanted them to do. I liked it so much that I think I prefer it now! Ive not played much bass (apart from in a studio doing a bit of session work for a band) so I was thinking of teaching myself. Hence the acoustic.

TBH Im thinking its more trouble than its worth as I honestly cant find much that I like within a realistic price range.

Maybe I need a lottery win first ;)

Here is a pic of the one I have at the moment :)

Hah, I've gone the other way, played guitar and violin, but my arthritis makes it impossible to fret properly, so now I'm (slowly) teaching myself to play a keyboard.

I had a plink on one of these belonging to a mate, and it was nicely mellow and rounded for a brand-new guitar, well-finished too, as apparently it arrived set up, and he only had to spend about 5 minutes tuning up, rather than the usual set-up palaver of adjusting the truss rod, shimming the bridge etc.
Maybe I need a lottery win first ;)
Just like the rest of us. :D

No! Burn the Moochild  :D

Im shit at playing it, being righthanded, but its a really nice guitar to play none the less. Nice action and a nice mellow sound :)

I'm left handed but play right handed

My left hand technique has always been good, but my right hand was always sloppy. I couldn't alternate pick properly tilI was 22. EEEEEEK!

The Artcores look nice, I tried one a while back, might have to investigate them again

I decided against an acoustic bass in the end, so i've listened to Xenon and got myself an Ibanez (GSR 190) similar to this one, but its in a bundle form - includes bass practice amp, strap, etc. All for £190.00. After I got home I found it online for less  :o

I've been playing it all weekend and it seems like a good buy for a beginner. I'm enjoying it anyway. :)

I like reading this thread. Reminds me to stop wasting time on tinterweb and play.

Enjoy the new gear.

Reading these threads reminds you to stop reading these threads. They must be bad :D

Trouble is I saw so much cool stuff while bass hunting that I can see me needing a second job.

Im now thinking about PC interfaces.... :o ;)
