What genres of music or bands out there you simply cant get your head around....

She can be as "proper" as yer like, but if I think the whole genre is turd, I am hardly likely to warm to someone who is a perfect embodiment of the that genre......

:)

I'm not a great fan of most modern R'n'B myself, but I don't reckon that condemning the whole genre is helpful.
What should be condemned is the sheeplike way that producers latch on to new sounds and work them to death, as should be the way that so many R'n'B producers over-produce and over-gloss their output. To them I say "guys, we have an old saying here: You can't polish a turd".

I'm also not particularly fond of wibbley "look how wide my vocal range is" frilly bits some R'n'B chanteuses insert into their lyrics. If I want to hear that stuff I'll torture myself by listening to mariah Carey's abyssmal cover version of "Without You".

None of that means that the entire genre is crap, though.

Yeah I know VP, and I have already - reluctantly - admitted so to Dub.....sort of.

:)

Mind you, the day I feel I am no longer allowed to make smug, scathing, possibly unfounded and sweeping generalisations to the world at large, is the day I hermitise myself.

:p

Can I just put one band on this thread? Ufucking2 - it's U2 weekend on C4 and I'm very very angry

I was in an electronics store today. In the TV bit, I watched with my jaw on the floor, that thing with them and Green Day and lots of footage of New Orleans.
I had to leave the store fearing I might not be able to be held responsable for my actions toward their nice plasma screens if I didn't.

Granted, but music usually does fall into one category or another
I would say it can fall into more than one category. Using a Venn diagram, as I love to do with a lot of things, genres are not mutually exclusive. To use an obvious example, is "Walk This Way" rock or hip hop? The answer is that's both simultaneously.

On the RnB debate, can I make a conjecture that I'm not totally sure I agree with but I'd like to open to debate? RnB is often the label given to pop music when it's made by black people. Case in point; is Jamelia really that different to Girls Aloud? Or the Sugababes, who in their time have spanned three different races? Yet chances are Jamelia will be filed under RnB and GA pop.
