What genre are you currently into?

uk hip-hop
bluegrass
bossa nova
roots
80s synth pop
"world" (eclectic mixes from my bro, mostly african and middle-eastern, some s.american & european)

Hip hop has always been and will always be the stuff I listen to most. But lately I've gotten into more electro [or electro pop, whatever, I don't know] stuff like Justice, Uffie, Sebastian... well, basically Ed Banger stuff.

And I'm also listening to a lot more stuff like Sinden, Switch, Radioclit etc.

S'good shit.

I stare up into the sky trying to focus on the Cirrus clouds and see the genres mentioned above sailing overhead. Blues, Folk, Rock (of all kinds) Jazz and Baroque, Classical (including 'modern classical') will do for me.

Dunno what it's called but mid/late 60's "prog/jazz/fusion" a la Brian Auger & the Trinity is floating my boat atm

never one genre, but at the moment mostly gospel, 50s R&B, country and dubstep / breakstep.

Have you heard the dubstep allstars 5 mix? It's bloody great. And the new Burial stuff on Soul Jazz?

Now, what's breakstep when it's at home?

stuff like Vex'd - it's dubstep-ish but a bit faster and more abrasive

Just listening to Vex'd - Angels on myspace, great sound. You can hear some of the Burial stuff on the latest Mary Anne Hobbs listen again, if you can put up with her fucking awful radio voice/patter. She's like Westwood but more cringe making.

It's mostly 50s/60s blues for me right now, trying to pin down the styles of the different artistes. I'm trying to learn to play guitar and piano and it's really got me wanting to get in there and find out what makes it all tick.

Other recent phases have included:

British blues
Harvest label psych folk
The Fall
Northern Soul
60s US garage
British 60s folk
Krautrock

I like breakstep more than I like dubstep – it's like a much, much better version of breakbeat, with superior beats and bass. And you can dance to it, unlike dubstep, which you can only ever sway to.

I went shopping online for dubstep yesterday and got bored really quickly. It just seemed to be one identikit track after another, no variation in tempo, mood or basslines. There is some decent, more innovative stuff out there, I'm just struggling to find it. But a lot of it just isn't getting me excited right now :(

Auger is God :D

Saw him in Leeds last year on one of his rare tours. 67 years old and he played like a teenager (in a good way)

*looks forward to hearing breakstep.:D

I'm mostly having a musical retrospective these days, listening to Rockabilly/50's stuff...But then there's often old punk tunes on in this house, plus my daughters' Klaxons/Enter Shikari New rave stuff going on. Which I think is quite a good mixture.

atm, disco & detroit techno seem to be the in thing for me... and bits of rave & acid house in the mornings.

and everything else i can get my paws on. :)
