What fate awaits Dalston? - your predictions please

The North London Line is great.

When I was in Wuhan, having been there 3 years, my mate came to visit me (he was from between Dalston Kingsland and Canonbury). He'd been living in Russia and then Thailand.

We got on the bus from the airport and within about 5 minutes, we were bitching/reiminiscing/complaining about the North London Line :D :D

commuting on it is rubbish tbh, it's fine off peak, but gets very crowded if you want to use it before 9, particularly between hackey central and highbury corner (unluckily for me)

That sounds about right :D

I must admit, I'm quite glad that sorting out the North London Line (now called the London Overground) will be a priority in the Olympic spend

True.

With the friend in question we were recalling how the trains would often stop, for no particular reason, about halfway between Dalston and Canonbury. I can remember one time on the way home from school where the train got stuck on the line at that point for about 2 hours. My mate said that you could practically see his house from there and it was always so annoying, knowing that you could have got off at canonbury instead... :D

true, and it's a great way of travelling east to west/ west to east

apart from the rush hour bit

I agree about that, I have a friend in Richmond and it's quicker for me to use that line from Dalston Kingsland than to go by tube through central London.

I did see very recently (in the Hackney freebie paper?) that London Overground will be replacing the old Silverlink rolling stock. There was a picture of the new carriages which look a great improvement.

no more squats..all of the ones on dalston lane have been given till the new year to get out :(

why do they always have to gentrificate the bits of london i happen to love..

Agree about that too - some happy memories of various Dalston Lane parties :)

Does anyone know what's going to happen to the shops and burnt out flats / houses above them on Dalston Lane? Also loads of shops have been bought by TfL on Kingsland Road - right hand side walking from the junction towards Dlaston Shopping Centre - why would TfL buy up these places - it can't be part of the new station can it?? It's across the road from it?

Use your noddle. TFL knock 'em down, sell em to private developers to build cheap nasty blocks of flats, use money to help 'finance' building of station. There's no secret about it - check out TFL site or, better, OpenDalston.

New trains are coming soon for the NLL (and the ELL - it'll be a combined fleet) so capacity should get better next year.

as HE9 says .. its for massive shops and flats ( or was!) check opendalston .. but they are ripe for squatting!

Some of them already were earlier this year but the squatters were moved out (I don't know the exact ins and outs of it).

TFL have put some bold notices on the buildings now!
