What Does 'Punk' Mean To You?

Punk to me is having a go - no-one telling me you can't do that......whether it's fashion, trying to make music, anything really.

If you have an idea give it a go - you may look a prick but quite frankly who cares - at least you've tried and done something a bit different.

As to the time - I'm of the second ( not the purist wave :p ) of the subs, ruts, gang of four, era
And as much of a sheep as the rest until I realised we were like the old teds we mocked for always being the same since their youth ( teds look cool BTW )...now look at 40 year old punks :D

The Exploited killed it all, I bailed , but I don't know if anyone would agree with me on this, but to get into newer evolving music that hadn't been done was more of a punk thing than listening to 'dead cities'.

Rant over - time for middle class work :D

punk still feels to be the most important musical movement of the last 30 years, i was around in 76, and remember the shock and outrage of the media at the time, the daily mail was in full on frothing rage:cool: i don't think any musical/cultiral movement has matched the im impact of punk since 76, only one i can see a parallel for is rock n roll in the 50s

i was only 11 in 76 so couldn't be a proper punk, and by the time i was 15 so, it was sort of retreating back to the underground...

I think the mass media was just as scared of the Rave scene and Ectasy in 1988 , nothing since then though.

Discovering that a judicious mixture of speed and special brew can under certain circumstances that sensible people would definitely want to avoid, be a performance enhancing drug

But that's like say if people started calling Enya punk then she would be punk.

Have some standards for heaven's sake :p

But but if i was going to have standards i wouldn't be able to see your mum anymore.

Genres are made up so if enought people say that something i part of a genre then it becomes part of it.
