What does everyone have against Streatham???

Anyway, there are enough tatty old boozers around to keep all of us happy. The Two Woodcocks for example...

I walk/cycle past that every single day multiple times and I still haven't gotten up the courage to go in... I worry it might be a bit League of Gentlemeny..

Thanks for that beer info tarannau. I did admit I was probably out of date, and because Streatham isn't all that near, I haven't visited all that often in the past either.

haha guess what - i haven't noticed the police station either. the only things i notice are furniture shops it would seem. oh, anyone know any shops where i can get a cheap tv-dvd combi that hasn't fallen off the back of a truck?

How cheap is cheap?

Gentrification got to you Rob???? ;)
I'm fed up of paying £500 a month rent for a tiny flat when I can go up the hill and get a place twice the size for the same, or less. And I'll be nearer to the rest of the Brixton crew who are steadily becoming the Streatham crew one by one.

it's the magnetic allure olf selhurst, you know...

they just can't cope with the thrill of moving to zone 4 all in one go, so they're doing it in stages. You mark my words, another few years and everyone will be SE25...

well the cheapest (thats not totally shit quality-wise) that i've found is £70. Anything less than that would be great

Don't really know. There's a Cash Convertors but I don't know whether they'd have any.

This one from Phillips has got good reviews on Amazon so I bought it for myself at Christmas.

Found it here though much cheaper

or two by two.

i always swore the south circular was my definite barrier in terms of how far out i'd go, but we're only about 2 minutes beyond it and we do have a balcony :)

thanks for that, that looks great... my only problem with ordering off the internet is i can never be home to receive it and end up running around on the weekends trying to figure out where in the postal system my lost product is floating.
sorry for being ignorant but what/where is a cash convertors?

It's a chain of pawn shops basically. It's opposite what used to be the Kwik Save... what is it now, Somerfields or something?

Ah, Somerfield, who opened in a blaze of glory with a sign proclamining themselves 'The best supermarket in Streathham Hill' or thereabouts.

It took about 5 years for the misspelling to be corrected...

:)

Not got any neighbours or friends you can trust to take delivery?

The thing about the one that someone else mentioned from Tescos is will it play other Region DVDs?

The Phillips one plays all regions, plus CDs etc.

yes, Crack Convertors is opposite Somerfields nr St Hill station
hmmm... is that the place that at the moment is actually nothing, and they are doing refurb. or opening a new store or something? walked past last night and saw a load of shelves being put up and what looked like detergent being carted around.

Hasn't crack convertors shut down though. Or am imagining that from a brief glance on the bus ride home at night - it looked even more tatty and shut down than usual.

i wish i did minnie! i've only been living in my flat a week and a bit, haven't met my seemingly antisocial neighbours yet, and all my friends live miles away so would be pointless them accepting for me. am a lonely soul in streatham!!! ;) i could get it delivered to work but then lugging it home would be a nightmare (work at moorgate)...

somerfields does my head in. there's no space to move around in and their range of products is dire. ooo i hate little supermarkets. sorry just had to get that off my chest.

Dubversion said:
trust me. Somerfields is better than the old Kwiksave
ha can't imagine how crap that was then. they should just get rid of all little supermarkets and just have a nice row of shops... a butcher, grocer, household goods shop thingy, sweet shop and so on and so on. with good prices. and nice people behind the counter.

I bought my first ever bottle of vodka at that Kwik Save.

Well, I say "my" bottle, but it was to take away on a school trip for the lot of us, and one git drank pretty much the whole lot one night before I ever got any and was very sick.

Oh, and my memories of the White Lion are walking all the way down the high road shopping, and ending up near there thinking "I'm knackered, I could do with a pint and a sit-down, maybe I'll go in there... oh, actually, maybe not".

maybe Jezza liked it because at last he'd found a pub where HE was the stylish one ;)
